All networks are doing it and affiliates can track their transactions thru the network reporting system.
You'll need to have a very, very special relationship with the merchant to install your own tracking pixel in the cart.

So is that a no. I was hopeing that google analytics would have a code available which the merchants would install once. After the code installed every affiliate using google analytics will beable to track sales.

Adwatcher provide this but google analytics looks better in terms of features.

Especially worrisome if the aff program is in house (or with certain aff networks that may have questionable business practices and leaks).

I can't give you a definitive answer because I don't use Google Analytics. I heard some CPA Networks allow you to add a third party pixel or post back URL to fire off when a sale is made. It's not something you can do with most merchants or major networks.

The problem with affiliate marketing is you cannot normally track back sales on Google Analytics as your code would have to be placed on the merchants confirmation page. The affiliate tracking software used to track the sales will show you how many sales you have generated but it can be difficult for you to isolate the source of the conversion. Particularly if you are using a mixture of marketing methods.

BDR If I did get the merchant to install the code on their confirmation page would this track sales for all affiliates using google analytics or will it only track sales for myself.

No way these merchants allow you to track the sales with your tracking code on their page. So forget about that option and try praying god that they track your sales properly. Or join an affiliate networks like Clickbank.com to promote other products. (3rd party tracking).

most merchants won't do this for you. Some of the CPA networks will for top paid search affiliates because they use "container pixels" that allow them to upload a number of affiliate GA or other pixels - but this isn't generally extended to anyone but the biggies who are driving serious volume and spending serious money to promote.
