I was just wondering what everyone considers to be more successful... a forum that has more members, one that has about twice as many posts but 2/3 the # of members as the first, or one that claims to be the fastest growing forums w/out anything to back up those claims...

(sorry, hit the reply button waaaay before I should have :P )

I was wondering as well, then I read your post and I'm still wondering.

[edited to add] you cheated Celicaphile, you added that later just to make me look an idiot didn't you?

I would consider a forum successful if it got a good number of posts every day.

Sorry, it's been a long day & I'm running on empty...

    okay, to clear that up...

Forum 1: has 1038 members, but only 11,244 posts and has been around about twice as long as Forum 2 and much longer than Forum 3.

Forum 2: has 673 members, 21598 posts and hasn't been around as long as Forum 1, but is older than Forum 3.

Forum 3: has 478 users & 2,836 posts, but claims to be the fastest growing even though it's been around for a couple/few months...

Keep in mind none of these forums are more than 7 or 8 months old

hope that clears it up :P
    (sorry)

blimey I would say they are all successful.

If you are going for page shows then I guess #2 is most successful

If you are going for members then I guess #1 is most successful

Its all relative to what you yourself are looking for, but to my mind they are all successful with those numbers of posts.

I would number two, the one with the most posts, especially if those posts are coming from loyal longtime members (even if there are relatively few of them). It can be quite difficult to get people to participate in a forum, and even more difficult to keep them coming back, so regular contributing vistors are my definition of success.

Agreed users who come back are the ones you need to value. Thankfully I have a lot of users who come back. A few have over 1000 or 5000 post. Some even in the 10k range.

I wouldn't want to even try to answer that question without seeing the quality of the posts in each forum.

Be sure to treat those over 10K with some respect Mickey. Often they are the only reason the board even got off the ground.
