    Question Complicated Site Problem
I have an existing site we are trying to incorporate WebMerge into.

Have read through Frank's tutorials and am stuck.

Thinking we need the FOUR-Tier Website with files nested into directories and subdirectories route on this.

I had it working then broke it!

Set up the info in an Access database. Have 3 tables:
    -Categories
    -Sub Categories
    -Product Entry

The Categories and Sub Categories tables were so the customer can select the appropriate Category and Sub Categories plus these files have some extra fields I want for SEO purposes. <-- bit more complicated than Frank's tutorial.

This is the first time setting up a site with WebMerge so please be patient. I think my problem is combining my Category and Sub Category info with the run of the Products.

Have spent last couple of days trying to get this to work. I have to get this done by Wed. so any help would be appreciated.

What changed between the time it was working and when it wasn't?

Actually, I don't know what I did to get it to work.

I can get the home page to work, adding all the categories by exporting my main categories table to txt.

At one point I did have the page for the category with it's sub categories listed but now I done broke it.

The problem I see is that the way the tuts are written if you put My Category in the category/sub category field, WebMerge creates a page MyCategory.

    a ) I want My-Category
b ) This is an existing site so come categoryies, sub categories and pages are existing so I want to use the existing paths.

I do have a field with the URL in it for everything.

The next problem I see is:
In the products table I have a field for main category and sub category (names fetched from the other 2 tables selected by dropdown). So if WebMerge squishes up the category/subs names I'm going to end up with 2 sets of category/sub pages. The products table also has the url of the page.

    Worked on this some more.

    Have the following settings files:
    1-home-page - uses main-categories.txt
    2-main-categories - uses main-categories.txt
3-sub-categories - uses sub-categories.txt (associated main category is an ID)

These all use the Index tab and nothing under Details at the moment.

Produces the individual pages required but the main categories need the subs listed on them.

    The home page works perfect!

    Making progress!

    -Home page - perfect!

-Main Category settings create pages with the url I want.

-Sub Category settings add the subs to the main category pages but creates duplicate pages. i.e. doesn't overwrite the main category pages created with the main categories settings. It uses the title instead of the name in main categories settings. Layout is perfect but because it doesn't insert subs in the original category pages plus I loose some stuff inserted in the main categories run.

Would really like to get this to work out. Have other sites I want to use this on.

Can you post that section of your template so I can check the syntax?

    TIA -

Actually, think we have it figured out now. Using queries and Access.

Do have a question though for something I wanted to do but couldn't figure out:

How can you do nested records? e.g. If I wanted a page divided by sub headings with records in between.

    Sub Heading

    some records

    Next Sub Heading

    some records

    etc.

I could get it to pick up the headings but it didn't insert the records so I had to think of something else. Would really like to know how to do this for another project.

I think you'll find the WM-IndexLabel does what you need for that. One of the examples included with WebMerge, the Congress contact list, shows a breakdown by state that follows your example.

If that doesn't do it let me know and I'll see what I can come up with.
