March 5th, 2011, 10:18 PM #1My links are redirecting
I am building a new site today, and when I ran a check on the links, I found that they are changing to another user's ref id. So when I create my links, I see my code, but when I check the link to make sure it's working, I found that it's redirecting to "ref_=nb_sb_noss" (instead of my ref id).
What can I do?

Have you checked with Amazon or tried a few new links? Is there any chance that they are being posted in a different charset encoding? ( if they are saved as ansi or Windows text and then posted in UTF-8 or WP?)

Wow. Thanks for the response, 2busy. But all I understood was the first sentence. :/ (yes I contacted amazon. No answer yet.) I don't understand your second sentence. If wp=wordpress, that is what I'm using. BUT my amazon links on my other sites are working fine. It's just the links on the new site I built today.
Can you explain what you mean, please?

Your affiliate ID should look like this:
where xxxxxxxxxx = usually the first few charachters of your website (or whatever you specify)
Do you see something that resembles some text followed by "-20".
I think the ref_=nb_sb_noss is amazon internal code for where the traffic came from.

Yeah, I knew it was supposed to have the 20 and my specified campaign name. I've built about 20 sites before this. The amazon links on all of them are working well. Only this one is wonky---there is no -20 anywhere.

Maybe try regenerating the link at Amazon? If there is only one bad link, it is not likely to have been mangled due to charsets. That is when your site is built in UTF-8 (like most WP sites are) and the text they are pasted from is different. I have seen WP invent characters from plain text if the encoding is different.

are you using a plugin to automatically convert links to amazon affiliate links? say one that's supposed to do it on the fly for several countries?
