I was in NYC two holiday seasons ago and did a bit of photography of the holiday decorations, and I can't remember what building was decorated with a big red bow with pearls.... If anyone has a clue, can you let me know please? I know it is on Fifth Avenue between 59th and Rockefeller Center.

I am feeling quite dumb right now, I didn't think I could forget this! The image is on the products on this page:

    Debbie,

Tiffany's use to have a red bow some years back. But that doesn't look like Tiffany's.

Think I read somewhere that was the Gapping Azz Art Gallery Bld. The owner died just before Christmas and left the place to Chris Cringle's elves. If you took any of the freebee pearl strands be sure to boil them first.

That's my gut too, Debbie. Saks Fifth Avenue. They're big on red.

The Saks building does have more than 4 floors but that overhanging cornice and the lighting might give the appearance that the building ends there.

Still, I don't think it is Saks. The windows are wrong and the awning is gone. Saks is also on the wrong side of Rockefeller Center from what Loxly described.

Okay, other big department stores in NYC:

Bergdorf Goodman. Bloomingdale's. Lord and Taylor. Macy's. Anything else? It's been a loooong time since I was in NYC.

Cartier Jewelers, 52st & Fifth Ave.

I think they decorated the whole building to resemble a big gift-wrapped box.

Geeze, those beautiful old buildings with the glitzy decorations almost make me want to visit New York City next month.

    I said almost!

Looks like I need to go back to NYC and see if I can find it, I think they decorate differently every year so won't see the same thing again.

It isn't Saks, that was my first thought too, but I have photos of Saks from that night, and the windows are not the right style.

Not Bloomingdales, that isn't on 5th Ave. I worked across the street from Bloomingdales and they had a light display instead of elaborate decorations on the building. There focus was the window displays. I was definitely on 5th Ave walking from Central Park to Rockefeller Center the night I took the photo.

Its definitely not Saks and definitely Cartiers.

    Not:

Look at the awning in your picture. It reads a blurried Cartier's

Mystery solved, it was 2002, so it was pre-panther Cartiers, which explains the pearls. Not that jewelry adorning buildings in NYC requires explanation, but it makes sense

    Thanks to all!!!

(I still want to get down to NYC for a couple of days while it's all decked out!)

That's one of the things I miss about not living in NYC anymore: Rockefeller Center at Christmas while it's snowing.

Okay Debbie, here's my plan. You pick me up and drop me off. You do all the driving while I snooze. You arrange a dog-sitter for our puppies. I'll split the hotel room cost with you. You will have to cajole me into leaving the hotel room each day and silently endure my whining about how cities are too noisy, smelly and crowded. Also you have to take me to F.A.O. Schwarz and buy me a BIG stuffed animal.

    Deal?

I would if I had a car, but I would be flying and I don't think Continental would make a stop even if I said please lol.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but FAO Schwarz closed...

So if I go I guess I will be there alone. Oh well....

And as far as dragging you out of the room, I am actually quite agoraphobic (albeit periodically), so if *I* can get out to go see the sites, they are good enough for *you* to go see

Any merchants want to meet with a potential power affiliate and put me up for a couple of days??? hehehe (my power is all in my head)

Wayne is absolutely correct: Cartier - walked by it this morning...no panthers (yet)!

Debbie, let me know if you like, happy to take some photos and shoot them over to you.

David, thanks for the offer, but I am a pro photog that uses the photos for stuff I'll figure out a way to get to town for a couple of days. Unfortunately my friends that lived in NJ that I could have stayed with and commuted in decided to sell their house and travel the country in an RV.
