We exchange links with several sites, most of which,
have a rating of PR5 or higher... however... on their
links page... PR is 0 or 1 or 2, etc... since the traffic that
they are sending us is clicking a link on a page with PR2...

Which one does goggle consider... Their main page
with a PR6... or their link page with a PR2...?

Haven’t been able to find this information elsewhere...
anybody have any idea...?

IT's the PR of the actual PAGE that your link appears on that counts.

PR of the home page of the site, or any other page for that matter, is irrelevant.

Thanks UM...

That’s what a few others have said... but they can’t
remember where they found this information...

Can you tell me how you know for sure...?
I’d really like to track down a definitive source on this...

I’m putting together an article on linking and I don’t want
to say anything that I can’t back up...

thanks

Not a direct answer but:

quote:
Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. source

Thanks Haiko...

That doesn’t give a definite answer but it does seem to say
that it is the actual link page that is considered by google...
If goggle can’t give a definitive answer, then nobody can...

And it does give me a source to quote to authenticate whatever
I decide to say... I’ll just have to be prudent as to how I say it...

thanks for your help

Haiko's quote really does say it in a nutshell.

But if you want to go the whole hog, the original paper by Brin and Page "The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine" details PR calculation:

Most link exchange requests I've received attemp to lead you to beleive that their PR7 home page is going help your PR. That's not going to happen when your link is on a PR0 page. I often find that their links page is is not indexed for one reason or another, or it's hidden several levels down on a long links directory.
