Anybody buy those $20 DVD players last year?

I'm looking at the ads today and am considerinig picking one up for the bedroom. Circuit City is advertising one for $17.99.

How does that saying go, "You get what you pay for." My first DVD player was a cheap bucket of s@#t and it damaged most of my DVDs by burning through the actual protective layer.

Yes it was an Akai DVD player, the problem with the cheap DVD players is they basically use all the same components, regardless of make. I've learned from my mistakes. I've got a Philips DVD player and have had no problems with it.

IF you've got a Best Buy nearby (or if you want to order online), they've got a Magnavox single-disc w/ progressive scan for $49.99 along with a $15 rebate. The rebate expires on Saturday though.

I know it's not $20, but I'd personally rather pay a little more for something a little better. Although I can't personally vouch for the player, but I've never known anyone to have problems with their Magnavox equipment.
