Newsletters are not to increase your traffic. They are to communicate with your visitors. They are for sales, not traffic. First you need traffic, then Newsletters.

In my experience, the word "good" depends on what your subscribers want to read.

I've published a newsletter, online and offline, since 1993 and have had to answer the following questions for myself to determine what is "good" for my readers:

    1. Will the newsletter be long or short in length?

    2. Will I write the content, add articles from a reputable source, or a mix of both?

    3. Will pictures be included, or will it be an all-text newsletter?

    4. What offer (sales pitch) will I include in the newsletter, and where will it be placed (top, middle, bottom)?

    5. How often will the newsletter be published?

    6. Which is the best day of the week and time of day for publishing?

    7. Which Email marketing service will distribute the newsletter?

    8. How will I encourage new people to subscribe?

    9. Will I be faithful in publishing and distributing the newsletter on time all the time?

Once you have a framework for the newsletter developed through these questions and others that you ask yourself about the people who will receive it, you'll then know how to proceed with your publication.

    Good luck with your plans.

The answer to your question depends on the type of people, industry, profession, etc., that is to receive your newsletter.

All newsletters, in the way they are written, developed, and published, are not alike. You are the one who can answer your question, and that can only be done through research.

I would also like to add that the newsletters should be formatted in such a way that the lines contain 50 60 characters. Having shorter lines makes it much easier to read. Visitors tend to stick around and keep reading your newsletter when it doesn't require much effort to do so.
