A book NOT to get is Core CSS. While the books goes into great detail about CSS, for someone new to the world of CSS, the book is basically useless. It does not show you "where to start" and the index in the book is useless if you are actually trying to find an answer to a question.

I've learned a tremendous amount about CSS recently simply by playing with Dreamweaver MS and using the CSS project over at ProjectSeven and using the Turorials over at w3schools.com

    http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp

CSS is not hard at all. Indeed, it is pathetically simple - at least the basic stuff - once you figure out a few things. And, oh my, is it nice to know.

For relacing tables with CSS try

    http://www.bluerobot.com/web/layouts/

    ALso

    is great fun.

The CSS book by my desk is "DHMTL and CSS for teh world wide web".

It's Ok as a handy reference but does not cover using CSS to replace tables and I suspect there are better books these days as this was first published in 2001.
