What's up with aol.com today? I responded to an email to a friend, and it bounced back saying, unrouteable mail domain "aol.com". Then I sent out my newsletter, and everybody with an aol account bounced with the same message.

Because why? The first email I responded to a friend. The others are people who signed up to receive my newsletter. This makes no sense. Is it me they blacklisted, or the server I'm using?

Going back through the names, some of the aol addresses didn't come back. The newsletter is to remind people to enter my monthly contest. Some aol people who received the email already responded and entered the contest. This is too confusing. Plus I resent the one to my friend, and it came back again.

Herb AOL has ping request blocked.
Visit http://postmaster.aol.com for info on how to get your domain unblacklisted.

I have had the same problem today with my email server at work. It has to be AOL's problem.

    LOL@webpartner

After I read that I might have been blacklisted, I googled the message and found this blog:

    http://www.tobiasly.com/index.php?itemid=247

It seems this is a host problem, not a black list thing. I've written to my host and they are researching it. My limit is supposed to be 500 emails an hour, so I'm interested to see what they figure out. I don't think I'm black listed because some emails did go through to aol people.

I also tried emailing my friend again, and the email bounced the second time. Fortunately, she has a backup email address so I just switched to it.

    <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> AOL has ping request blocked <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

just my first reaction to something like that. any time I'm working on one of my FreeBSD servers and the communication seems questionable, I ping sony.com to make sure everything is OK right out through the router.
