Question Acquiring an affiliate link for an individual product page
    Hey guys,

I'm sorry if this is a newbie question, but say I have a link: Tees Big Dog Logo at BigDogs
How do I turn this product link from the merchant's website into an affiliate link?

I know you can search for individual products in CJ, but supposing I have this link from the merchant's site, is there a way to readily aquire an affiliate link that points to that URL ?

In CJ, if the merchant has enabled redirect links, you can build a link with a destination URL that can be any URL at the merchant.

    1. How do you know if they have enabled redirect links and 2. If they have how do you build the link?

    Thanks

In the Links (beta), you can search for links with Redirect (Allows redirect). If you find one for the merchant, they allow them. If you don't find any, they don't have them. When you find one, under Link Options, there is a Destination URL. You can put any URL from the merchants site there.

if you can't find the redirect link and you don't mind telling us who the merchant is, we might be able to find it for you

You are actually able to create links to any page on a merchants site, regardless of if they allow redirects or not.

You just need to know how to do a bit of html manipulation!

So go to Get Links, type in your merchant, then click on their View Products link, if they have a datafeed. Type in something, just to get a product to come up. Then click on the Get HTML link. You will see a bunch of code that looks like this:

    PHP Code:
    <a href="http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-xxxx-xxxxx?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewebsitehere.com" target="_top">
    keyword</a><img src="http://www.tqlkg.com/image-xxxx.xxxxx" width="1" height="1" border="0"/>
So you need to copy and paste just the url only, so from http:// to the end of the quotation.

The bit after where it says url=, is where you need to put the url that you want to redirect to.

Go to your merchant's site, get the url (convert it to a html coded url). I am sure you can find a website to do this, but I cheat and actually go to the ShareAsale website and use their "link to any page" function, put the url in, get the encoded url out and then copy it in after the URL=.

Then take that full url and you have a link to the page you want, from your merchants website.

Mind you... I have no idea if this is actually allowed. It just drives me nuts that you can not send customers to the page you want of a merchants site. There is nothing bad about doing it. It is just a way to get around CJ limitation on doing it.

Oh and I normally also type in a SID value, so that you know that it is working. I know it works, as I have made sales with these particular links.

If you do something like that, make sure to check to see if it tracks. Some merchants (particularly those on multiple networks) require links to redirect through a specific page in order to track. Standard links and network redirect links usually work in those cases, but a hand-crafted link might or might not.
