Losing Sales? Shareasale Tracking is being BLOCKED
Are You Losing Sales? Shareasale Tracking is being BLOCKED!

    Ghostery addin for FireFox

Ghostery is your window into the invisible web – tags, web bugs, pixels and beacons that are included on web pages in order to get an idea of your online behavior.

Ghostery tracks the trackers and gives you a roll-call of the ad networks, behavioral data providers, web publishers, and other companies interested in your activity.

There are many cookie blockers out there, many browser plugins and add ons and net "security" packages. The default settings on a Mac block all third party cookies unless you set it to "Accept ALL". This is not news. (unfortunately)

A number of years ago, after I installed an anti-virus suite (I think it was Norton), I noticed that when I viewed my own web pages, some text had disappeared, leaving garbled sentences. It turned out that Norton was actually REMOVING any text inside a link, if the link went through certain affiliate networks; in blocking the "adware" link, Norton also blocked users from viewing the text itself!

In 2007, Ben Edelman did a study of which affiliate networks' cookies were blocked by which anti-spyware programs. He concluded that LinkShare and CJ/Bfast cookies were most frequently disabled by anti-spyware software utilities. None of the utilities deleted ShareASale cookies. What do you mean "On a Mac" -- the Mac is not a browser.

Of course the Mac is not a browser, but browsers like Firefox that work on either platform have different defaults and controls on a Mac. The system defaults whether I'm on Safari or Firefox were both set to block third party cookies, something that is not true on Firefox in Windows. In windows I can set Firefox to ask me how to handle cookies, NOT available on a Mac.

I would hope that peoples' browsing experiences would degrade to the point where they would want cookies enabled.

Keep in mind the majority of internet users have NO idea what a cookie is...

    +1

Mrs. Beachy knows what cookies are. She bakes [at least] a dozen different kinds every Christmas season.

Some shopping carts require cookies to be enabled so a consumer couldn't purchase without them.
