No, affiliate marketing is not dead But lots of affiliates cannot think out of the box and usually they opt very usual way of marketing. IMO, to become a successful affiliate you need to increase your business contacts along with all the possible ways of internet marketing.

Affiliate Marketing is just beginning. It's such a young profession that it has yet to be truly defined. And, I'm sure as hell not going back to an 8 to 5 job, let alone wearing clothes again. My collection of pajamas proves Affiliate Marketing is alive an well.

This is Think Tank weekend, a lot of the folks are off to party in Chicago this week - which I don't think they would bother with if it was dead or dying. Being a holiday weekend, even the ones who aren't at that party might have other things to do for a few days.

I am glad that someone finally announced it dead, have been putting off getting a real job. Spending 60 hours a week on affiliate marketing would suck if I didn't enjoy it so well. Now I will have to go back to working for someone, putting on a tie, commuting to their office, drinking their bad coffee. Maybe I can go back to manufacturing, there's a growth industry!

Was tongue in check as I love working from home, no commute and grind my own coffee. Can play my news or music as loud as I want, have a TV going next to me, take a long walk for lunch. This year I skied two days a week but next season it will be four with two mornings on weekdays instead of going to the gym.

Personally I had to realign my agency so I could focus on biz dev. Was losing business because I couldn't get back to them quick enough. Still doing the work of three but at least I can determine how much I want to make. From where I am sitting there is no shortage of merchants looking to launch or affiliates (with traffic) applying to program. My biggest problem is how best to get my merchants in front of big affiliates who are inundated by competitive offers. i estimate there are 10k affiliate programs not including CPA campaigns.

There used to be. I had forgotten an old account I had on here and back then, several years ago it was thriving....doesn't look like it now.

Just because there's change in this industry:
    1) Big player moves
    2) Legislation
    3) Companies come and go

This happens in every industry. It's how we learn to cope with change and adapt our businesses to these changes (current and future) that will determine our individual success.

I agree that it's a young profession, and that the industry will continue to change and grow. No 8-5 for me anymore either! My PJ collection continues to expand...

One might just ask, "Is advertising dead?"

As long as people buy products, there's an opportunity to provide focused, value-added shopping experiences.

The people are still there - just not as many "here" (or on other forums - because of social media and other forms of "dilution").

Don't believe that? Have you attended an Affiliate Summit or other industry conference. Affiliate Summit has grown every year? Or how about the latest ShareASale Think Tank - which has received accolades by those who attended - and had twice as many attendees as last year.

I was not able to attend Think Tank last week - but was able to follow it closely on Facebook and Twitter (and even txt msg from Heather and Jill). People used to be able to follow it all right here - but that, unfortunately, faded away this year. (See this comment.)

Here are observations about the whys from March: http://www.abestweb.com/forums/midni...ng-142257.html

    Another one from November.. http://www.abestweb.com/forums/midni...ur-138108.html

    One from last June: http://www.abestweb.com/forums/midni...re-134058.html

    It is a recurring phenomenon.

    Not at all!

To be brutally honest ABW has some issue mainly lack of interest.

ABW lost so many of the people who gave it it's character. It was lively, raucous, and often irreverent. It attracted strong-minded and colorful characters who injected much vitality and substance.

Many of those members are gone now(anyone want to start a list?) and have not been replaced at the rate they left. IMO, that is where the issue lies.
