    Google checking WordPress blogs version
Check your "Google Webmaster Tools" and look for messages like this one:
Your site appears to be running an older version of WordPress. Google recommends that you update to the latest release...
Nice, but what's the next step? How far can they go? Are they going to update them for us automatically?

"The thought police would get him just the same. He had committed--would have committed, even if he had never set pen to paper--the essential crime that contained all others in itself. Thoughtcrime, they called it. Thoughtcrime was not a thing that could be concealed forever. You might dodge successfully for a while, even for years, but sooner or later they were bound to get you."

Be warned Big Brother (aka Google) is watching you.

    Just Wordpress?

    What about other site-building software?

    Will they catch us all?

I have not yet updated all of my RapidWeaver sites from 4.0 to 5.0.

That would be nice - but with RW updates you have to make sure the theme is available in or compatible with the new version (Not always the case) or you've got a major revision to do.

That's one of my problems. Each time I update, I've to tweak my old theme. I'm not ready to change it, not yet.

I only have a hunch, but I think G is building a bias against WP into their algo. They are so easy to do that in some ways they may represent some spammyness (spell check laughing) to the all wise G. They like to judge by your neighborhood. This is one of the reasons I'm playing with alternative CMS.

superCool got that warning too, and somewhere it mentioned that older versions are more likely to be compromised with malware and could harm your visitors . you know the big G - always looking out for the user .... and their "experience"

sounds like a "quality" signal to superCool. actually make a bit of sense.

I had touched this subject in another post
Whats to stop google wiping the blogsphere in a single wave of the almighty arm, in the same way it clipped the wings of thin content/article web sites.

I wonder how many rely on this single platform for affiliate marketing, and what back up plan you have in place should the mighty arm sweep again. Perhaps the wording should be WHEN.

Maybe google will sweep again! Or maybe its just being nice....
