VF Corp. acquires The Timberland Co. for $2 billion
VF Corp. 138 VF Corp. Apparel / Accessories Online Sales:$120,000,000 Growth:26.8% See More , which already owns and operates apparel brands such as The North Face, Wrangler and Lee, is adding another to its portfolio: The Timberland Co.
I find this interesting because Timberland has an affiliate program with Google. The North Face which is the 800 pound gorilla in the outdoor gear space in on LinkShare. Wrangler looks to be on Google.

All the distributors are on AvankLink where they enjoy strong relationships with the top datafeed driven sites and content/review sites. From experience I have felt that Timberland has been underserved by their distributors as well as Columbia Sportswear as they are more urban brands.

Not familiar with VF Corp. but they have some stellar brands and should consider consolidating all programs into a single platform.

It is always upsetting to me when a company like Timberland is bought out by a giant mega-corp.

Despite incredible growth and eventually becoming a publicly-traded corp itself, Timberland has always been run like a smaller family business. Founded in the early 1950s, the company has been run by only two people, the founder and since his retirement (and subsequent death), by his son.

Timberland has been a pioneer in the area of environment awareness and actions among large manufacturers, making a tremendous effort in the areas of climate change and greenhouse gases, both in limiting the effects of their own facilities and in raising public awareness of these issues. The have for years used organic and recyclable materials to the largest extent possible. In 2007 they introduced the "Green Index" showing the environmental impact of each of their products.

VF also owns JanSport, Vans, Eastpak, and a dozen other big brands.
