    Hey everyone,

I'm interested in using the Commission Junction SID functionality, but I can't find any good information on it. My main questions are:

    1) Do I need to do anything special to "activate" the feature?
    2) Are there any technical issues I should be aware of (illegal characters, length limit, etc...)
    3) Do all merchants support this feature? If not, will it hurt anything for me to insert the SID= parameter anyway?

    Thanks for your help!

    Dan

    1. You don't need to acitvate anything. You can just append &SID=BLAH to your link.

    2. If you are using words then you will want to urlencode them like &SID=blue%20widgets

    3. I don't think it matters which merchant links you use.

I agree with what ipohopper said. I started using the SID's to help me track which links the visitors are clicking on and I was really amazed. It's great!

Using SID is absolutely essential if your trying to narrow down the exact origins of your click thrus.

It often amazes us just how a couple of words changed in a promotion ad that is still similar can make a huge difference in sale conversions. We use this tracking method to repeat high click ads on other pages to see if it's a fluke, or actaul proof it works.

Much to be discovered and learned using SID.

    Happy New Year.

AffJus did an excellent job of explaining how to use it here.

    (Newbie Alert!)

I just started using these in the past week or so. It's kinda cool to see them show up in the Transaction Reports. There is a 64 character limit to them. They work with smartzones too, apparently.

At CJ, I went in under Support Service, then Search Help to find my info. Try searching for SID and SmartRewards.

Do they show up anywhere else other than the Transaction Reports?

    Thanks for any help...

Actually one feature I would like to see is to be able to search by SID on the Advanced Reports page. Maybe they could add it in the dropdown where search for Transaction ID is located.

When I use the SID=something in the link, which report will it show up in?

If you run your transaction report for any period of time, there is a column called SID. Usually it says NA, but if you add the SID to any of your CJ links, you'll be able to see which one of your links brought the customer to the merchant's site to make a purchase. It doesn't necessarily mean, however, that the purchase was for the item you advertised ... just that it was the item that the customer clicked.

    Tracy,

Thanks! So I won't be able to see reports by SID in the Performance Reports, only Transaction Reports? I was hoping there was a way to see clicks by SID, not just transactions.

    Thanks.

I guess not. I just went to CJ and ran various performance reports (for individual merchants and for entire site) and none of them listed a column with SID.

That's just CJ's way of making life easier for you.

You don't need access to that type of information.

You think it might be helpful, but it wouldn't be.

    Really.

    It wouldn't.
