June 24th, 2011, 03:48 PM #1RIP Peter Falk
The great actor and all-around talent Peter Falk died yesterday at 83.
The longtime star of Colombo was also an artist and a chess expert, had a M.A. in Public Adm., and started in dozens of great movies, including "Murder, Inc." and "Pocketful of Miracles", for both of which he was nominated for Academy Awards.
He also starred in John Cassavetes' cinéma vérité classic, "Husbands". I was in college when this came out in 1970, and the was a showing of the film with Falk, writer/director/actor Cassavetes, and the third star of the film, Ben Gazarra, all there to discuss the film and answer questions. Interesting evening, as I recall.
In Falk's last years, he unfortunately suffered from Alzheimer's, and there was a viscous court battle between his relatives over control of his care and his estate.
He will be missed.

What a true artist! He brought much intelligence, compassion & wit to all his roles. Loved his Grandpa role in "The Princess Bride." Sorry to hear that he had Alzheimers, it's a horrible illness.
