Google eBooks affiliate program wants unconditional access to CREDIT REPORTS
I was looking at the terms of the Google eBooks affiliate program, and there is something surprising there, Google eBooks wants to be able to check your credit report at any time for whatever reason.

    The paragraph there says:

"You authorize Google to obtain from time to time a credit report and
to otherwise make credit or background inquires on You as Google deems
    appropriate."

I am not an expert, which is why I came here to post it. I don't recall seeing this type of thing in other affiliate agreements. I don't read affiliate agreements cover to cover, so if this is common practice, I may have missed it?

This is already raised as an issue by other affiliates at the Google Affiliate blog

That is a good question. They actually rejected me from the program.

Standard procedure for Google. Four years ago, I wrote about how this is in the TOS to sign up for Google checkout, but no one seemed to care.

That seems pretty standard for a merchant account though. Believe PayPal does so as well. Also, had to provide my personal social security number in order to get our PayPal Business DEBIT card re-issued after we had to cancel it due to illegal activity on it...

NOT for a merchant account - for consumers to USE Google checkout. Even though they are paying with their own, pre-existing credit card.

do any of the other affiliate networks and affiliate programs out there have an unconditional credit report check in their terms and conditions?

The Google eBooks program is promising but this seems to be an overreach. It doesn't even restrict it to cases of suspected fraud or foul play.

I asked and got this reply:
I wanted to let you know that the language has been removed from the ebooks terms. It does not apply to their affiliates.

    Hello,

To confirm, this language has been removed from the Google eBooks terms as it did not pertain to the affiliate program.

Please join the program today if you are looking to promote ebooks. Feel free to contact me with any feedback or questions.

    Thank you,

    Jamie
