Question Help! Missing Transactions using Paypal
We recently got a message from one of our affiliates about missing transactions. So we did some tests and found out that if a customer from an affiliate link checks out through paypal and just use the credit card information through PayPal and doesn't click on the prompt to return to our shopping cart, then he will not get exposed to the tracking code and the network will not record the transaction.

We've contact ShareASale about this problem and they said "We are aware of this issue - that the auto-return from PayPal function only works on people who checkout with their paypal account. Unfortunately, PayPal wrote their web standard code a long time ago and, since it is their cheapest integration, they seem loathe to update or modernize it. Ultimately, there isn't much that can be done in this scenario to correct this, as it relies on PayPal changing their code. You might want to consider trying to increase conversion by adding language to your site before sending traffic to paypal, encouraging your traffic to return to your site after using paypal."

So besides "adding language to encourage people to return after using paypal", is there anything else we can do to solve this problem? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated!

As a merchant we deal with this on a daily basis. In our case, we configured the 'return to the shopping cart message' to say, 'click to complete your order', and still, probably a third of the PayPal customers still don't take the link. This results in the order detail/confirmation email not being sent as well as the payment type not being set in our database. To get around this we use an email response program to capture the PP payment notice and auto respond to the customer with the order confirmation email and update our database. Merchants who receive PP payments through the standard web interface need to take the responsibility of reconciling PP payments with the affiliate that produced the sale.

I've never used PayPal while shopping online so am a lil confused. Does the customer have to return to the merchant shopping cart to complete the order?

Ummm, if not...........wouldn't this then be a very bad problem for affiliates since they would have had sales but not received credit for them ????
