    I had a paid placement search engine script developed that allows for easy co branding, great tracking and fraud protection and is an overall leap ahead of anything else on the market.

    It's ready to go but I have a decision to make. Should I go into the business of selling the script or running the search engine?

    If I sell the script I was thinking along the lines of $5000.00 per sale seeing as it is a better script than what's available for similiar price at our competitors sites.

    I still don't know about going this route because I know there aren't to many people who could afford to pay 5k and there are dozens of cheapo scripts out there.

    A little less talk and a lot more action.

    Why not go the DMOZ route. Open your own search engine and at the same time make it easy for ANYONE to be able to plug in and grab and co bran the results.

    That way you build your own brand and at the same time build a dedicated user base that is plugged into your search...down the line when you have a good chunk of co-branded users you either hope to get taken over by some one bigger or introduce CPC to it.

    Since I don't know the technical details, take this with a grain of salt.

    I think you would be better off running the Search Engine. Once you get a client up and running, you'll be earning residual income. If you sell the product once, you don't get that customer back until you create something new, which I imagine is the hard part.

    Instead of selling scripts, start out by running your own engine.

    Then when it's up, running, and proven ... blowing the sox off everything else, sell the whole shebang - the whole operation - for a cool million [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img]

    What's to stop you doing the lot. Sell the technology, find decent partners for cobranding and run a search engine.

    I would aim for the second of those three options though as a main revenue source - find a large niche market (say sports), approach the larger portal and resource sites and offer a cobranded/revenue share PPC search engine. Then find another niche, rinse and repeat. Obviously, you need to ensure that you are delivering a good number of results for each niche you target, but I think you probably figured that bit out already.

    LIcense it to CJ -LS- Befree-Performics. Place a hook in it to parse the affiliate joined programs and generate coded affiliate links to their merchant partners.
