Why use an iFrame for my links?
Hello all! I've got a question about "A certain affiliate program's" affiliate links. Does anyone know why they put them in an iFrame? What's the point? Don't search engines ignore iFrames?

Yep, I wasn't sure if I could mention who. But do you know why they do that? Is it still indexed by search engines in an iframe?

Not sure why they do it. As far as indexing, this is what Google says about it:

"IFrames are sometimes used to display content on web pages. Content displayed via iFrames may not be indexed and available to appear in Google’s search results. We recommend that you avoid the use of iFrames to display content. If you do include iFrames, make sure to provide additional text-based links to the content they display, so that Googlebot can crawl and index this content."

One big reason behind the use of iframe is that the content is easily control/manage at a single place. A single change in the source file will reflect to everywhere the iframe of the page is used. There are many other smaller reasons like the search engines index the original source page instead of where the iframe is used.

iFrames are generally not allowed by affiliate programs as it can effect tracking and referring URLs. They are used in lead gen to allow the affiliate to host the merchants lead gen form on their site and post directly to the merchants database.

I am surprised that Amazon would use them? Going to move this thread to the Amazon forum in case someone may be able to comment.
