    Hi,

I am the developer for our Hip Hop Wardrobe affiliates programme. We have recently received a number of requests for product data feeds and I was wondering how best to implement them. Any advice or info from either affiliates using data feeds, or merchants supplying them would be very helpful.

What do affiliates usually want in a product data feed? Is there a preferred way of retreiving data feeds?

Any response is very much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Kev

Short answer is include as much information as you can.

    ProductName
    Category (important)
    Description
    Keywords
    Price
    SKU
    ImageURL
    ImpressionURL

this are must have fields. the rest is up to you and also it depends on the product you are selling.

Next you need to look in to format of the file

    Excel
    CSV ( comma Delimited)
    txt Tab Delimited
    Pipe Delimited

    I personally perfer csv format.

also if you can have a saparate category to product association file it will make it easyer to create dyamic sites.

Drop me a line if you need more info on this.

In addition to the CATEGORY field, I would also recommend including a SUBCATEORY field. This is standard on BeFree and CJ feeds (although many CJ merchants do not provide them.

A lot of Webmasters, like myself, like to develop four tier websites, i.e., a home/index page, CATEGORY listing the subcategories, SUBCATEGORY pages displaying thumbnails each product, and DETAILED product pages.

Sometimes the Brand Name can be used as an adequate substitute for the SUBCATEGORY field.

    Thanks for your great responses!

Just a quick question this time... Harry mentioned SKU as one of the data feed columns. What is SKU? I've never heard of it before.

    Thanks,
    Kev

SKU (stockkeeping unit, sometimes spelled "Sku") is an identification, usually alphanumeric, of a particular product that allows it to be tracked for inventory purposes. Typically, an SKU (pronounced with the individual letters or as SKYEW) is associated with any purchasable item in a store or catalog. For example, a woman's blouse of a particular style and size might have an SKU of "3726-8

Ah, so it's basically the products unique identifier or product ID. I guess I hadn't come across that term as our store software uses the term "product code" instead.

    Thanks for your help.
