    This was posted over at the Amazon board, the first page I checked gave me three copies, 1 of little consequence, but the other two by apparently reputable businesses who'd just lifted pretty much a whole page of mine for their scummy sites.

    Paul;
    What a great tool. I found 4 sites that copied and cloaked the google search results for my site including my domain name and page and used it in their pages without an active link to my site.

    I think this is the proper Google address to report these kinds of things, but I'm not sure:

    LOL, my sites must suck. I don't have infringers.

    <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> I think this is the proper Google address to report these kinds of things, but I'm not sure:
    http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

    That address is good for narking on spam, but it doesn't deal with the copyright infringement aspect.

    THIS is the page on Google that deals with copyright infringement:

    Leader;
    The copier was not infringing my copyright because thay did not literally copy portions of my site as it appears when my site is loaded.

    Instead, what they do is literally copy the short Google search result text for several of the top ranking sites as it appears on the Google search result page. Then they past the copied results of the top ranking sites (including domain names and URLS) on many doorway pages and remove all of the hyperlinks. Thus the copied text becomes "content" on their numerous doorway pages. In other words, they are making doorway pages by cutting and pasting the Google result page.

    The http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html page says:

    "Google strives to return the most relevant results for every search we conduct. To that end, we encourage website managers to make their content straightforward and easily understood by both users and search engines alike. Unfortunately, not all websites have our users' best interests at heart."

    Help us maintain the quality of Google results.

    "Trying to deceive (spam) our web crawler by means of hidden text, deceptive cloaking or doorway pages compromises the quality of our results and degrades the search experience for everyone. We think that's a bad thing."

    "If your Google search returns a result that you suspect is spam, please let us know using this form."

    The Spamreport page seems more appropriate in this situation because the bad guy is not actually infringing the copyright but is deceptively cloaking and making doorway pages that compromises the quality of the Google results.

    Thanks for the reminder, Ken. I just ratted out a few affiliate sites using cut & paste results as "content."
