How to monetize my Travel Forum?

I have a travel forum with about 2500 visits a day. So far I only use Adsense ads but I think its time to start moneymaking the site.
Could anyone recommend where to start?
What kind of networks and affiliate programs should I consider?
Should I consider banners, widgets? Flights and hotels or products?
I don't know where to start so any tips would be appreciated.

I manage the MountainReservations.com affiliate program, it could be a good match for partnership w/your travel forum. We host our program in the AvantLink Affiliate Network.
Check us out on AvantLink.

It really depends on the focus and target of your forum. We manage a range of travel programs but I'd hesitate to say how and where you could use them without knowing what your target audience is. A budget travel forum should have a very different set of affiliate partners to a high end / custom tours style site. The same for if discussions center on specific destinations, types of travel and so forth.
Also consider travel accessories, not just travel itself.

Chris has some good advice in what he wrote. I can say that because I have been earning the majority of my income from travel for a long time. This month is the 12th anniversary of my first affiliate hotel reservation sale.

although the OP has not returned ( Last Activity: November 14th, 2011 ), this thread might as well continue.
if a travel forum wants more variety in its ads, consider ebay affiliate ads for their vacation and lodging categories. The internet is a fad.

You could have a section where they can consult a Psychic for 2.99 a minute about where to do on vacation?http://deathchallenge.com

Hotwire, travelocity, hotels.com all are partners on the shareasale, linkconnector and commission junction network. I would suggest you join all of the networks and then start applying.

Our travel category is getting some legs, and there are a couple of very large accounts integrating in that category now. Take a look at this Affiliate Link Encoder (ALE) case study...when the right merchants are in place it's an ideal tool to monetize content (especially on established forums or blogs).
