Question Affiliate Program Microsite on Same Domain
    Hello Everyone,

I'm working on setting up an affiliate program that will be pay-per-lead. Since we have live chat and other leaks on our website we can't remove, we've decided to restrict our affiliate program to a leak-free microsite.

Initially we wanted to do something like, quotes.website.com, but we'd have to purchase a new SSL and we're on a tight budget. If possible we'd like to run it path on the main domain, such as website.com/quotes.

Is it a major problem to not use a separate domain? There will be no leaks on the affiliate friendly microsite, website.com/quotes. There also will be no linking between the two sites.

    Any feedback is much appreciated!

Either a sub-domain or a directory still allows for visitor to edit the URL. If a user doesn't make a purchase immediately, remembers the domain name, comes back later and directly types in the domain name without the sub-domain or directory - back to the leak problem.

Also, a new SSL is less than $30 and a dedicated IP is about $3/month from most hosting suppliers.

Seriously, if the cost of an SSL and dedicated IP is a concern for you, your affiliate program will be a concern to your affiliates...

We're willing to do what is needed for the program, just prefer to not spend money if don't need to(looking at subdomain vs. sub-directory). What your suggesting is an entirely separate domain?

We could do this, if it'd be a much better situation for our program. My only concern I have with this is similar to the situation you mentioned. Where they come across our affiliate microsite, remembers the brand name, but not the url. Finds our main website and not the affiliate microsite on search engine. I guess there has to be some compromise somewhere.

Affiliates prefer to promote a website that has a history of converting. If it's a new site there is no history...

Another possibility is that we have the microsite website.com/Quotes, that is leak free and direct all the affiliate links there. However, we do include the affiliate tracking codes on all the forms on the main website, website.com but are upfront with our affiliates about the short-comings on the main website.

The main site contains direct contact details to sales representatives, either phone number, or details to the nearest sales locations where they can come in. In addition there is live chat which they can click to chat, but are often prompted directly by the sales rep.
