I did not serve although I tried to get in as a pilot at the end of the Reagan era but programs got cut. My dad, uncle and god father were Marines. My brother Gerry was a Marine then went into Army. Younger brother is still in, did a tour of Iraq and volunteered to go to Afghanistan. My wife's dad retired as an Air Force NCO and her brother just made Chief Petty Officer in the Navy.

I have deep respect for anyone who wears the uniform and serves their country.

For the past, for the stability the military ensures at the presence, and for the safety of our children and grandchildren only the military can provide in the future.

    My heartfelt thanks and admiration

Being on active duty was a great experience. I was lucky to serve during the late 80's before the Gulf War and spent my time as a tank driver with the 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment in Germany. My Dad is a 30-year Air Force Vet and my brother is a Navy Vet who did serve in the Gulf War. Happy Veteran's Day and Thanks to all the Vets who sacrificed to serve their country!

Am late in posting here but my sentiments as well. Also, to all current soldiers serving anywhere in the world, please stay safe.

Than you for your service, Specialist - and thanks to all service men and women who help keep our country free and safe. Our son is at Kandahar Air Base right now. He's in theater commanding a supply company. It's his third deployment, having also been to Kosovo and Iraq.

He is at Fort Bragg now on a contract assignment with the Army but is actually Illinois Guard, been to Iraq. He volunteered for Afghanistan but they didn't want to extend his contract. He was in community services but it has now been melded into military intelligence. He was in the 101 only for two years right out of high school, blew off college until his G.I. bill expired then went back into the Army. Has been in about 14 years now. I hope he just stays in and retires but they are weird with their deals. He lost his benefits but gets paid twice as much so is actually making money, contract ends in June.
