I am sick and tired of Merchants SPAMing ...

Lets dedicate this thread to ALL the violators of the Commission Junction Advertiser Service Agreement! and see if "FRAUD" (LOL) does something about it! ... We all know if a publisher spamed ... they would be booted!

Haiko;
Don't back off on this, since CJ has got to keep cleaning house on their pool of lame merchants. Way too many are just schemers in the direct marketing industry and only know how to spamm not sell viable goods or services to our hard fought for visitors. Notice how these merchants really only gear up their sales machine via e-mail marketing when no affiliate tags are involved. AS IN: "Let me steal your traffic and pick their pockets for information and e-mail them my crappy offers -ebooks -Freebees and then those of every other like minded guy "I can crawl in bed with" til they somehow figure out how to get off the opt-in list.

When they have the nerve to opt-out ..then I sell off their names and info to the real die hard spammers as I compile my next get 5 million premo names for 14.95 CD. Get them out of the CJ cesspool and make room for niche' product merchants that convert and while your at it send them a virus.

Haiko,
Glad you followed up on this. I sent an e-mail off to traffic magnet about it asking them if it is in their norm to spam. Obviously it is because they sent one to every e-mail address I have posted...just went down the line. I told them that I was one of their CJ affiliates and if this is the way they do business, I would reconsider that position....I have yet to receive a response from them.

Whoah there - I'm a Trafficmagnet affiliate and they've never spammed me.

I *know* that a lot of these web-related merchants get their data off DNS entries - that's why the spam knows your website and technical contact details. OK, it's still spam but it's less clearcut than the usual story.

The difference being that if they took the mailing address from your DNS entry, it's public information, like an address on a web page - it's just trickier to get hold of.

If they took the address from a private mailing list in the way you suggested, that would be a breach of T&Cs.

I strongly suspect it's the first case - I'm not defending them for spamming per se, just that I think this is a "normal" spam not an "evil" spam

It might be worth moving the technical/admin/etc contact details for the domain to a different mailbox.

per this last CJ terms of agreement -

we have no right to privacy. Our information is theirs, from what I understand, they can do what they want with our info.

I get spam from their "partners" all the time. is targetmail one of 'em? I never knowingly signed up for them. mediaroic.net (or something lke that) sends me stuff all the time, there are a couple of others that just send 2-4 a day. my block sender list getting filled up.

Big Chuck,
This is a little different. I set up a seperate e-mail address that I use for CJ, and I get crap from other merchants all the time at that address. The thing with Traffic Magnet is I get these at all of my e-mail addresses. Then when I go to work at the radio station, all 20 employees have them too, even for the music request via e-mail. They just come in to everywhere. Makes me wonder if they use some type of spider to do it. Also, there is a music merchant with CJ that is doing the same thing...That SPAM even includes flash in it

ALL,

Ok ... I have brought this Merchant spammer up before ( http://www.abestweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t=000033 ). I have otten, this past week, alone 5 more SPAMS from them ... for my sites (I'll forward them if need be). I assumed that CJ did not remove this merchant because they utilized "Public
DNS records", fine I can live with that ... But the fact of the matter is that this spam was sent to ME as a result of email harvesting software! I am not the owner of this site ... I only helped her with some work on the FP ... she put a link on the bottom of the page "Website Design by Worker Bee and Haiko. © Bumble Beeee Creations 1999 - 2002" (my name is a link to my
email (the one they sent the attached mail to)). So ... now ... I am pretty fed up with the complete NON-compliance of this merchant and the total disregard of the Legal Terms and Conditions of CJ (for Merchants).

What are you going to do about it?

Haiko,
I was going to drop you a line about this but was distracted. I too have been pounded with them, once at all of our e-mail addresses (you are correct, they are using a harvester). I've contacted them about it in the past, but have never received a reply. I usually don't contact all spammers (have my own way of fighting them), but since I was part of their program through CJ, I asked them if it was their policy to spam people like that...no reply so I dropped them. FYI, I have a program to help fight harvesters..take a look at our Spam Buster.

Haiko;

I am terribly sorry that you got spammed as a result of a link on my site. I thought I was doing the right thing by giving credit where credit is due with a link to your email in case someone was looking for design help and it turned out to be another source for email harvesting.
I will remove the link to your email if you wish.

Worker Bee

PS: I am also getting spammed by Traffic Magnet. They are also using a screen shot of my page in their ad to me. Is that not copywrite infringement?

Obviously CJ is allowing this because PDHOST (owner of traffic magnet) a previous CJ program that ripped us all off!!

Tom,

When I posted, originally, I got two responses from CJ legal and thought they were doing something about it ... then realized that they wouldn't ..... after the worker bee site spam (still ok wb ) I was sure they were email harvesting b@stards ... and CJ Legal (forwarded from Lex) this last time sent me a really asinine answer to which I responded (who hires these idiots?). Unfortunately they will NOT do anything because I have learned about the previous relationship between PDH hosting and CJ (more for the case).

IDIOTS!

Maybe this is just coincidence but my spam has increased significantly since I signed up with clixGalore.

What I don't understand is who reads and responds to this junk? Don't most people just hit delete until all the spam is gone?

Haiko,
That's what I figured CJ would do...I don't think they have a vested interest in stopping it, as long as Traffic Magnet is paying the bills. I noticed in one of those forums there was a response from Traffic Magnet saying it was an affiliate that was spamming and not Traffic Magnet. I was hoping for a response like that from them since I know for a fact it is traffic magnet that my spam is coming from. There are no affiliate links, etc in the code.....SSanf..you are correct, but if you send out 1 million of them, if only a small percentage sign up, you stand to make a little. It is the selling off of addresses that gets under my skin...since we have unlimited e-mail addresses, I use a variation of e-mail addresses..that way I can track who is sending what...for example, I use an address specific to CJ, etc...
Also, if you guys need some help in fighting spam, let me know...we have some killer tactics in fighting spam

Yet another message in my cj mail box:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
To thank you for being an affiliate of CollegeRecruiter.com, the highest traffic, non-password protected site targeted to job seeking students and recent graduates (and the employers that want to hire them), I have something special to help improve your business.

But first, let me ask you ...

Do you have a system in place to create instant cash flow surges in your business any time you want? To attract highly qualified prospects who are eager to do business with you? To virtually eliminate competition?

Well, I''ve found the answers, from a marketing legend I''m so impressed with that I''ve decided to tell you and all my affiliates about him -- to help make 2002 your best year ever in business.

I''m talking about Dan Kennedy and his flagship product, the "Magnetic Marketing System and Tool Kit."

Dan is a Phoenix, Arizona-based marketing "coach" who''s quietly made a fortune for himself and his small business clients for more than 20 years.

You can think of his "Magnetic Marketing System and Tool Kit" as a complete direct marketing department in a box. One that will let you "define" and dominate any market you choose.

Dan''s system is much more than a 337-page manual and a set of 6 audiotapes. You get 102 money-making sales letters, ads, flyers and other exhibits -- over $75,000.00 worth of professional copywriting, consulting and analysis.

Plus, over 80 of these documents are "copyright free," so you can swipe and use them right away. And you get $300 in personal, one-on-one marketing consultations from Dan himself!

It''s a snap to use and profit from, because at least 80% of the work is already done for you -- that''s what separates this system from all others.

So, it''s really my pleasure to recommend Dan''s system to you.

To make this really special, I was able to get you a $120 discount off the catalog price. But only for a limited time. So hurry and grab this one before your competition does!

See for yourself at -
http://www.guaranteedmarketing.com/cr

It really is a great deal.

Steven Rothberg
CollegeRecruiter.com <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I am insulted. This kind of ad spin belongs in Six Figure Income letters or something. I think that a merchant pushing a program to which they are an affiliate is kind of low.

This is a test. This is only a test. Had this been a real affiliate program, you would have a real product to market and be making real money.

I think I'm going to forget any service oriented programs and concentrate on hard goods.
