Crayola.com is so new that they just came off the "new merchant" list this week. I've had links up less than seven days.

When I joined, commission rates were:

Pay-per-sale: $0
Pay-per-lead: $0.25

Two days later i get an email stating that tne new commissions rates will be:

Pay-per-sale: $0 or 7.50%
Pay-per-lead: $0.25

...ok, not a bad thing...

today, two days later again I get an email stating the commission has changed to:

Pay-per-sale: $0 or 7.5%
Pay-per-lead: $0

All this in less than a week on a NEW merchant. Sigh....more links to come down and emails to write to affiliate managers

Jill, I was thinking the same thing. Just got the email. I wanted them for my kids site for the lead. I went right to their Quit Program Button and and and well I almost clicked it lmao but decided to wait a bit to make sure I can't do something with them. They just joined OR also but I haven;t gotten around to see what their program is there yet.

Maybe it's like cutting off my own nose to spite my face but man, it just tickes me off when they change rates so quickly after joinging.

As a parent, I'll go to Crayola.com to see what's there, find activities for the kids, and research new products. But let's be real here, why would I order online and pay shipping for crayons when I can walk to the WalMart or Zellers and buy them?

I know my audience and they're pretty much the same way. The change in commissions come the end of the month, I'll rake in some lead commissions before then but then the links are coming down

I looked at them and thought the ONLY things likely (relatively) to convert were the branded items (backpacks and such) -- but they throw all those products one ONE page, over 100 of them. I never even saw the page finish loading... no way...

Well, nice to hear it's not just me being stubborn.

As for backpacks and such...the local Zellers sells those with the Crayola logo. Maybe if they had special "online only" products....maybe....

Jill, no stubborness about it. I agree with you 110%. I have in the past however let my finger start deleting merchants and a couple times have regretted it. I think it's pure BS to bait and switch. I pulled them from most of my pages when they did that and the chances are that they'll be pulled completely. I do agree with you though. <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon7.gif>

Well, I think I've said it before here, I'm not known for my patience LOL

I probably should look at more things with a cooler head, but heck, I'm too old to change

I wouldn't call this a bait and switch, though. I have a feeling that they - like many new merchants - adjust their program right at the start as part of a learning process.

In addition, instead of dumping them for a slow loading page, why not take a look at the site and suggest some changes to them?

If they are new to this type of marketing, they would probably like to hear from some of the more experienced affiliates here. If it's done politely, of course!

If they had something I really really wanted to sell and they were the only merchant that sold it, I might consider giving them pointers. Otherwise, I get paid for consulting and time is just way too short to go around giving unsolicited advice to merchants with a product line that I have serious doubts would make any money.

OTOH, I have proven merchants that I have chatted without about various items, have requested special links for, and wouldn't hesitate to comment if they did something I thought was incredibly stupid (like putting all their products on one page).

Can't say a darn bad thing about Crayola,
because there is no better crayon , and Crayola has been there by my side in the worst of times, ( like when I was a kid, and no one wanted to play with me )

I am sure they were bombarded with 25 cent leads coming in from the coupon/freebies sites pushing the "FREE Crayola Passport" savings thing. Never got a chance to put up the link, but I am sure it would have converted well for me too.

The response was probably WAY more than what they expected for leads, so they had to alter the payout .

I wouldn't hold it against them eithor.

I joined them yesterday. While checking the links noticed the "In your face Popup" for leads. "No pay" for leads means no ad spin from us. Sorry Crayola
