This is quite exemplary of why it's easy for the devought to reach the top in this global game of monopoly we call e-commerce.

Any real, threatening opposition is virtually non-existent.

These were the people who threatened to prosecute me for mentioning their 70% charge back rate. Its part of the Hearst Corporation.

No wonder Patti had issues. Don't have anything to do with them.

breeze,

i think youre wrong, sure the are lots of dumb asses out there but affiliates are getting smarter, there are now more than 800 affiliate members of abestweb sharing the same info and once you take all of the dud merchants that arent worth promoting out of the equation, there arent enough keywords to go around

Austin...thanks for the google link...Worse than I thought...I did, however, send them an e-mail playing ignorant publisher 'if a visitor calls on the toll free, how are the sales tracked from my website'. Obviously, we all know the answer (at least the folks in these boards and not the 81 in the google search). I'm awaiting an answer to this question.

I went looking for links from Snow Traders.com from LS the other day.
Their smaller buttons read Snow Traders. Next line down read call toll free..... no click here etc etc but only an ad to call them
GRRRR

Ahhh...I remember the days of trying to get around the toll-free on the merchants site...now they are trying to put them on our sites...sheesh...

Whatever...

Anything I mentioned could not possibly be construed to pertain to anyone on this board.

We are a rare breed that uses the power of our numbers to network our way to success.

The good thing about all the marketers out there running around blindfolded is this, there are so many that they act as camouflage to protect the successful from people like FattyAcid who copy your site because they know you make money.

If you can fly low you will make it. There is no way to stop an individual who produces a solid business model then replicates it. All under the cover of the advertising efforts of the diabolically dense.

I call it Stealth Marketing.

Many merchants use the Call 1-800 routine for limited QTY closeouts or overstock specials knowing these are the hottest sellers. They often use a flat fee call center to field these and pay 50-75 cents per order plus a spiff for upsells. No commissions go to affiliates on call ins and for over 1 year DELL required all their computer shoppers to call their 800# to order Dell closoeouts and refurbished systems or monitors.

A&E's gotta take the cake though, trying to get affiliates to run their commission-eating number on their sites!

There is one merchant that has 1-800 number right in their face but has a good EPC:
Merchant: 1-800-CONTACTS
Network Earning: $$$$
3 month EPC: $54.14
7 day EPC: $61.80
Charge-back: 0%

May be it's because it's going to be to much hassle by calling the toll free number (since you have to specify your prescription info).

May be someday...someone will create an affiliate network that has an extension as their affiliate ID.

XO...that idea is not that far away...we already use something similar in radio. The toll free number you often hear in radio spots (like those phonics game) is tracked by using a different exchange (ie 1-800-XXX). I think businesses can benefit greatly from using toll free, however, when it comes to sales like this, I think they should offer a discount of say...10% or free shipping. Customers can still call if they have questions, but when they want to save that 10%, they HAVE to order off the web.

There is also really no reason those toll free calls can't be tracked, either. If you go to Ken Evoy's site through someone's link, and click on order by phone, you get to a little page with a tracking id you have to give to the operator. Same with ZenMed, I think it was.

I think that it stinks that cj has still not addressed the non-tracking of non-cc purchases by their merchants. Any faxed or emailed form should have a tracking code that identifies the visitor as having orginate from the affiliates sites. Same with toll free orders.

I wonder how much those CJ affilates are making with those 800 numbers to A&E on it.

I clicked on a few in those google results and bet this one isn't making a ton from A&E:

Well...finally received a response from them, and their answer was no surprise.
@Haiko, if there is a problem posting this info, please feel free to edit

Hello-

My deepest apologies for taking so long to return your email. It has been extremely hectic here and I was going to get back to you soon. I had to do a little bit of investigation to get the answer to your question.

Unfortunately at the present time we do not give affiliates the credit when a product is ordered over the phone. Our affiliate program is just for web orders.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Best,
Kathy Hermanowski

Should this be sent to the CJ fraud team...they are using CJ links knowingly that the orders aren't tracked and admit it in their e-mail

Thanks Tom,

Another bit of evidence of Fraud to add to the list.

Going to be fun to see how these slime react when they have to answer for it in court with 12 people just like us deciding if they were Guilty or not.

Watch out for Kathy. She'll threaten you with prosecution for a 'federal offense' if you say nasty things about her company. Or mention 70% chargebacks.

On the 0800 numbers. I read the riot act to textileshop (or whatever they're called). They claimed on the phone they always asked how the customer found the site so the affiliate gets the credit.

But their 'ring 0800-XXXX to see how to get free shipping on orders over $100' has now gone. In case there were any misunderstandings. I expect.

I wasn't very polite really.

Well...maybe Kathy will read this post and see how we all feel about it...Difference here is it sounds like textileshop (or whoever) was lying about it. In this case Kathy is telling the truth, but I get the feeling that she doesn't know any better. What affiliate manager in their right mind would tell an affiliate to put links on their site, but admit that they don't track them...seems she doesn't see a problem with it...
