You will NOT believe this one! I am surfing tonight and come across the Pest Patrol site. Intrigued, I click around a bit and come across a page on their site that lists "new" trojans.

THEY HAD ALURIA'S SPYWARE ELIMINATOR LISTED THERE AS BEING A SOFTWARE THAT PUTS A TROJAN ONTO THE PC!!!!!!

Not only is that completely false but totally in violation of "fair competition" laws.

We sent a cease and desist letter and will definitely prosecute.

1. Does anyone know anything about these guys?
2. WHY would they do that?

Obviously it's a lie and completely unfair.

I have NEVER in my many years as a merchant bashed or publically denounced ANY of my competitors!

Ok guys..thanks for hearing me out!!

And please be totally assured that it is NOT true in the least!

Here's the page it was on:

Your link to these clowns is inactive. I've often uncovered sites that propose to be anti-scumware/spyware thta actually try to do a driveby install of Gator.com or other adware programs. The parasite Kazaa regularily peforms DOS attacks on the kazaalite site to thwart users from getting a adware/spyware neutered copy.

Jamie,

I saw the page this morning and was angered by it also. Pure defamation case to me.

What I find interesting is that my letter was sent last night as a cease and desist....now today the link is inactive...interesting. That is DEFINITELY the page it was on.

Honestly I think that is so low! The sad part is that Aluria is a VERY honest and upright company. I never bash a competitor and in fact, wish them well.

On a GOOD note...we mailed affiliate checks today

I believe I saw your name Haiko!

Good job!

Just in case that gets taken down, this is what it says:

Details

Pest Name: Aluria's Spyware Eliminator
Category: Trojan
Description: Actually installs trojan, rather than removing spyware.
Author: Aluria
Date Released: Thursday, September 19, 2002

I've checked their database and now I don't see Aluria listed at all. Both alphabetical and their search feature do not show Aluria

It is still there on the page that is given in the opening thread. Page date has 4th October so I doubt I am looking at a cached page. Have copied and pasted the important part of the page below:

Yes it looks like a sore competitor.. I can't find any evidence anywhere that would back up these claims - it looks like a total fabrication.

It is a TOTAL fabrication! We would never do that. We are a multi million dollar business and we pride ourselves on our honesty and integrity.

I'm going to get our corporate lawyer to take care of it!

Happened across this while reading back posts. Decided to do a site-search for Aluria to see if it was still there. They seem to have missed a reference to it when they responded to your "cease and desist"

It's buried on research.pestpatrol.com in "Pests Detected by PPMemCheck: Here is the list of pests detected in memory by PPMemCheck as of Thursday, September 26, 2002:"

This is followed by a very long alphabetical list containing "Aluria's Spyware Eliminator".
