Is there any software that will track the
Cookies/IP address or any affiliate programs that use this type of tracking.

There is some programs that do, but I forgot
    there names.

Let's start a thread on this. This is the
best way to get around the IE 6 blocking
    cookies problem.

    Regards,

    Gary

Around the affiliate world the cookie setting techniques and swapping of cookied information is a spooky subject. Too many B-a-HO's lurking here devising ways to overwrite cookies or feed theirs into the commission cue. Please explain more about what you need cookie/IP# tracking software for as cookies are our sacred cash cow.

Affiliate software or programs that use both
    Cookie/IP tracking.

The reason is IE6 blocks a lot of affiliate
    cookies.

I feel the same way to about overwriting
cookies or having no cookies at all.

That is why I plan on promoting affiliate
programs that track both Cookie/IP address.

    All the best,

Well, pretty much all the adult, casino and pharmacy programs use more than just cookie tracking. I'm not certain that they just combine it with IP tracking- I believe they use some sophisticated referrer tracking software to track the affid through the site.

Certainly, that's the way I will do it if I ever set up an affiliate program. Personally, I wouldn't even bother with cookies and would just have a script to track the affiliate_id and/or the referring site's domain name.

The Ultimate Affiliate software from Groundbreak.com can track using both cookie and IP addresses. It is pretty good software all around and capable of tracking recurring commissions as well (also priced very reasonably). We use the software at NewWebsite.com (hosting) and I definitely recommend it.

Thanks for the information on groundbreak.

    I'll check it out.

Hay all lets keep this thread going.

We are losing a lot of commissions
    from having just cookies tracked.

I would have to suggest there really arn't that many due to the fact that it plays off the Hosts server(s) and you can't tract it. It is all called Honesty if they want to bend you over for a few bucks over their 100,000's don't be with them.... Thanks

IE6 isn't blocking cookies form any server that returns a valid "compact privacy policy" and all networks do that. The "in house" affiliate programs don't have trouble setting cookies either because they are (usually) setting them for the same domain that they are used on then, so the cookies are not considered 3rd party and have no issue with IE6.

IP tracking is useful for replacing "session cookies" but if somebody told you this is a reliable way of tracking affiliates over a longer period he/she fooled you. The reason is that more than 99% of internet users have "dynamic IP", not a "static IP". This means their ISP assigns them a different IP each time they connect to the internet. Even if you are on the net 24 hours a day (using cable or DSL) your IP will change from time to time (usually once a day).

In my opinion the "we use both cookie and IP tracking" is more a marketing slogan than anything else. Don't you think the networks would use the best available tracking methode to track as many sales as possible? Well, they're using only cookies...

But like EcomCity said ... cookies can be easily overwrited by parasites once they are on visitor's computer...
