OK, this is a strange one that I don't know what to do about...

Our Website was completly copied around May 31'st
from someone in Beijing China and they replaced our name and contact info with thier own. it's one of our older templetes we were using at the time.

It looks like all the affiliate links are still ours, so we are getting the commissions being produced there.

Don't know if I should just sit back and enjoy any commissions that they may produce or try to have it taken down. With the person being in China, I think legal action would be very costly on our part. the webite is http://www.wonwe.net

    Suggestions would be appreciated

    Hi

Leggaly your stuffed, unless the copier is based in Hong Kong in which case action can be taken rather swiftly as they have a special task force in HK to tackle fraud, theft and hacker issues.

If main land China you can only really hope that the host company will act on your behalf...so if they are dumb enough to be using your links I'd sit back and let them feed you and at the same time do some checking for when they catch on to why they aren't getting any sales

    Cheers

    Chris

    Thanks Guys for your replies...

I'm thinking it's just a kid who liked the look and decided to make it their own.

I was more conserned with so much fraud and such comming from a lot of countries that there might be another reason that I cannot think of.

I will keep an eye on them though

    Thanks,

    Phil

    Hi Iqnet,

Sorry to hear about your site being copied. Welcome to the club :-) I'm just curious. When he mirrored your site, it would obviously show up in your server logs. You could use ARIN to look up the IP block of the offender. But how did you find your copied site? Most users are on dynamic IPs generated from dial-in ISPs. Even if he was using a static IP, still, how did you find the site?

    Hi Fman,

They also copied our Hitbox code so it was pretty easy to spot when we were checking our stats

Have you e-mailed him and told him that while you appreciate the compliment, you would prefer he take it down?

Give him some nice links to free templates.

Maybe, he doesn't know you can make money from the links. Maybe, he just wants to spread the word about all the free stuff. Maybe, he just wants to show off for his friends. Who knows? Try talking to him.

I wish someone would copy my site and leave my affiliate links on there.

Wow, I am glad that I stumbled onto this thread. That url looked familiar so I did a search on my database and sure enough, the person had over $400 in fraudulant leads and clicks.

They all came from the url:
    http://www.wonwe.net/mm/
(offline now and it appears the main page is as well)

All the ip addresses started 218. & 61.

I guess we know what their main purpose was for copying your site now...

You may want to shut this copied site down asap to avoid penalty by google for a "mirrored site". Try the isp provider.
