    Post Are Niches Dead?
They say that niches are dead. Are they? I think they die but with social networking they resurrect too. I could say that niches are dead when people doesn't have money to spend. When this happens, I suppose it's a chance to test other methods. Which is your best?

    Who is/are they?

I make my living on a niche site. Niche marketing has huge advantages.

This question doesn't make sense.. a niche is simply a specialty. It has nothing to do with social networking, or what "they" say..

This question makes absolutely no sense at all.

As an affiliate manager I can testify that there are not enough good niche affiliates in the industry and as an affiliate can tell you the niche opportunities are endless.

    From the Oxford English Dictionary:

(one's niche) a comfortable or suitable position in life or employment: he is now head chef at a leading law firm and feels he has found his niche
I would add a specialist marketing opportunity.

Give the questioner the benefit of the doubt possibly he (she) does not understand the concept of a niche.

But now he (she) surely does

Head chef at a law firm?

    Really?

    Maybe in the UK.

But that certainly is a niche.

The larger firms who lease several floors of big-city skyscrapers usually have their own dining hall and in-house catering to the meeting rooms, and they don't serve slop

No, they don't. Catering for some meetings, yes, in-house dining hall or a kitchen with a chef, no. I practiced law in Los Angeles for 27 years and dealt with most of the biggest LA and firms and many national firms and never ever saw such a thing.

And you can't just put a kitchen in a skyscraper - zoning and building code restrictions prevent it unless all necessary venting and fire regulations are meet - that carries a prohibitive cost. I knew of three restaurants near my office that were not allowed to have a "real" kitchen because of these rules and had to bring in pre-prepared food and could only heat it up to serve.

I've put commercial kitchens into skyscrapers. However, not in CA where they have some of the strangest rules and regs in the US. Spent 20+ years in the industry. There are ventless exhaust hood systems complete with fire suppression systems.

Actually, I have a full kitchen in the skyscraper where my niche marketing office is. Oh, wait... it's my one story house. My bad.

That is a quote lifted from the Oxford dictionary but the point to be made was in reply to the questioner that the very concept of the word "niche" means that they cannot possibly die out.

    No, they don't.
They do things a little differently in California when it comes to building codes and such, don't they?

I worked at several large firms in Boston and each of them had world-class kitchen facilities.

Toronto skyscraper I worked in has full kitchen & dining facilities (and chefs!) near the top floor for client & executive meetings, as well as catered events & parties.

Our department worked on the same floor and we used to get all the leftover sandwiches and cookies

Now I only get my own leftovers from my own kitchen, right beside my own 'office' .. drat.

    Thank you!
Thanks a lot to all of you! We have 7 votes in focus on your interests and 4 votes for multiple sites in various niches, 3 votes for keyword research and one vote for multiple micro niches in one big site, which means that it could be such a hierarchy for the niche ventures.
The following might sound a little funny but keep reading my interpretation.
One has to focus on his/her interests at first, then try to put in line his best interests, start building content for them and when ready make some keyword research, and later combine his multiple micro niches in one mega site. This sounds good only when those micro niches have a substantial connective relativity.
If for example your niche is cooking, food and wine, those are connected with philosophy of life, poetry, history, industry, music and a lot of other things. So itís better to consider of such expansions when selecting your niche. How about that?

Stop worrying about it and get to work. There's no sense planning the perfect site or perfect portfolio of sites if nothing ever gets built. Build it, market it, do your best and LEARN from the experience. Leverage what you learn, improve what you've built, market better and earn more.
