    Which Merchants are dumping affiliates?
I live in Georgia, and our wonderful state is now actively considering a tax on Internet companies that have a physical presence in the state. And they are using affiliates as one of the definitions of a physical presence. Same yada-yada-yada as we have seen in other states.

Obviously amazon.com will cut us loose if Georgia passes legislation, and obviously national companies like Target, Walmart, Sears, Nordstrom, etc. will not.

So here's my question. Other than amazon.com, what other merchants are terminating affiliates in states that enact this type of legislation?

The total is in the hundreds. A few lists have been compiled in threads in various state tax sub-forums. Try the New York forum for the first and most complete list.

Thanks. I had looked and couldn't find a list, so this will be a good start for me.

There isn't ONE list that covers all merchants and all States. Each State is unique. Some of the State sub-forums Affiliate Tax Laws - ABestWeb Affiliate Marketing Forum have lists, some do no not.

For example, we're in Colorado so we don't look for merchants dropping affiliates in Georgia. In the Colorado sub-forum: Colorado Affiliate Tax - ABestWeb Affiliate Marketing Forum there isn't one list but several posts from different members. Have to kind of dig around.

You can also start a list in your State as you gather information. That would be helpful for future affiliates such as yourself...

Generally, if a merchant drops affiliate in one state, they will drop them in all states in which they do not have a real physical presence. So, for CA, we had an idea which merchants would drop us by looking at the NY list, and it was a very accurate predictor.

Generally, yes. But always exceptions. Wayfair dropped many affiliates in other States but left Colorado alone while other merchants still dropped Colorado.
