Other than writing a compelling and relevant META description tag, I wouldn't spend time on any other META tag.

I'd add that internal link structure is very important. Also, domain/site age and how any individual page fits into the overall site topic are important factors.

There are lot of onpage seo techniques. follow them:
    1- Your Tags (h1, h2 ,3 ) would be properly assigned.
    H1- blog title
H2- Post title including your keyword
    H3- your key word.

2- your post title should have Your keyword place like that the words should be in sequence.

3- If the content is of 500 words your title would be repeat 3 times. In first paragraph in the end or in the middle of your article.

4- Three keywords in you content. One should be BOLD other Italic or third one would be UNDERLINE.

5- Image optimization is one of the most important things which are not much familiar technique. Your post images should be saves of your Keyword.

And once you have all the appropriate tags and keywords in place and still feel like maybe your on-page SEO is still not at a 100%, then you can use SEO Analysis tools like Traffic Travis, Market Samurai, SEOMoz and the like. SEO tools can help you with your on-page and off-page SEO. Some tools include keyword research too and most are free so make sure to look into them too as they can be very helpful.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

    Hi karthick_npzt,

I think the guys have some great points that you should deffinately take on board. And for my 2 cent, I have a checklist that I use and freely share as it may help some others too...

    On-page Site SEO check list

    Page

Each page should be optimzed for one main keyword or phrase that is the most relevant for that page.

Your Page Title (The page title provides a description of what the page is about)

The page title shoud contain the main keyword phrase for the page
The page title should be no longer than 70 characters
The page title should not contain special characters expect - : |

Meta Desription (The meta description is what will show up on the search engine results page)

It should contain the relevant keyword phase
It should contain no longer than 150 characters

Meta keywords (Meta keywords is a list of keywords relevant to the web page)

The meta keyword tag shoud contain approximatley 5 relevant keyword phrases only
Each keyword should be similar to each other for a page
    Separate each keyword by commas,

    Hope this helps!

I believe Meta tags are important and they can really help you with, as they "tell" the search engines what you page or site is about. also, content writing is important, have unique content on your pages, relevant and based on proper keywords

As Caleb said the description is the only one worth working on as I have seen Meta Descriptions listed by G when the page didn't have enough content to form one. Other than that they are worthless and went out of fashion ten years ago.

Title tag is also very important if written properly (here properly means - it should be relevant to your page content).

Title tag plays an important role to get better CTR when you page listed in SERP.
