Was Building In-House Affiliate Program a Mistake?
    Hello,

I created a software for eBay buyers which I'm selling for $20 per year. The main reason I decided to do my own affiliate program was because of the cost. Most of the programs I looked at charge $1 + 7%+ per transaction which in my case would be at least 12%.

I'm currently offering affiliates 30% for a year of subscription or 20% for life.

Was it a mistake to create my own program?

I've been reading through this forum the last couple of days and one thread that stood out stated to offer both solutions: in-house affiliate program and major affiliate network. Do you think it would be a good idea to add this?

Also, do you think the commission I'm offering is enough to attract affiliates?

    Thanks,
    Robert

Robert, first question is how well are you selling this subscription yourself from your site?

Hi Chuck. The software is new. I just lunched it at the end of February so I haven't made a single sale yet. I give people 30 days to try it free by just providing name and e-mail address to create account. Free licenses will start expiring at the end of March. Currently I only see about 5-10 users using it on a daily basis. I don't expect many sales initially. I don't get much traffic from search engines yet but it's slowly growing.

I'm still tweaking my website for SEO, submitting to software directories, replaying to blog posts, adding relevant content through blog and forum, etc. For a few key phrases that I'm targeting, I'm at the bottom of first page on Google search but for others, the website is still not recognized.

Your program is not ready for affiliates and would only wait their time. Come back when you are making robust sales and we talk about next steps.

Thanks. I will take your advice and I'll concentrate my efforts on SEO and selling through my website. My plan was to create an affiliate program so affiliates can take care of selling and I'll be able to make the software better.

I posted to Site/Logo/Banner Review and I'm getting some good comments.

I didn't see a forum where I could submit my software for review.
