    CPA from display banners
Im new to this whole world of affiliate marketing. Im wondering about advertising methods and how exactly it all works. I have experience in making effective web banners for bigger brands and most of my expertise is in web development and design.

I'd like to find an CPA affiliate offer that I can make my own custom banner ads for that particular brand or advertiser and drive traffic to the advertisers page or action form. I noticed most CPA networks are looking at affiliates as "publishers" and assume they own a blog or site that has traffic. I don't want to start a blog or website, I just want to buy placements on display networks and collect CPA commissions on traffic coming from my banners.

Am I on the right track? Anyone have any pointers or knowledge they could drop my way?

Basically you want to do DTM PPC (Direct to Merchant).

Read the CPA networks terms and the terms for any merchant you want to promote to make sure they allow DTM, the use of your own creatives, and anything else you want to do...

Some networks call them publishers others affiliates, don't get hung up on the name. Affiliate market in dozens of ways.

Does DTM have to be PPC? I'm looking at placements that are CPM based on traditional display ad networks, and simply driving traffic to the advertisers signup form or product page.

No. DTM is still DTM. Verify that DTM is acceptable with the network and each merchant...

For those of us unschooled in the art of banner advertising can you define DTM?

Chuck, has nothing to do with banner advertising.

DTM is DTM. Whereas the click does not originate from a site you own or control...
