    Images from datafeed?
    Hi,

Lets compare how seo friendly a site is in two cases. Keep in mind this is site has around 500 words of unique content + 50 word product description from datafeed.

    1) Default image from datafeed is used (hosted on merchant site)
    2) Image from datafeed is downloaded and hosted on my own server.

I have noticed many big shopping comparasion sites such as shopzilla, shopping or nexttag use 2).

How much is 1) worse than 2), in term of seo?

I have feeling that most datafeed guys use 1).

The reason for question: I need to know is it worth the trouble to buy product pictures or not, proving merchant doesn't allow to host their pictures from the datafeed on my site?

Moved to the datafeed forum where datafeeders hang out. I think your answer is #1.

I always download and resize the pictures and place them on my site. Not just for seo, but also to have a fast runtime speed. Doing so removes the problems of slow merchant downloads, browser resizing and excessive image size.
