    A Bad, Bad Day
We lost our beautiful, sweet Kugel this evening. We got her from a rescue agency when she was a year old, and she lived with us for 12 wonderful years. She was only sick a few days, and her death was a real shock.

She was 1/2 German Shepherd and 1/2 Shetland Sheepdog.

My condolences, it is painful to lose a special pet. They become family.
We did not change as we grew older; we just became more clearly ourselves.

Been away, now I'm back. Not as much, but I'm back & starting from scratch. Where I was, was fantastic. Where I am now, less so. Things have changed, become harder. So have I. Game ON!!!

I'm so sorry for your loss.. I lost my German shepherd last year as well.. I know how devastating it can be. Looks like your puppy was well loved and spoiled.

Kugel was obviously well loved and therefore had as good a life as any man, beast or hound can hope for.
I'll get the hang of it eventually. :0)

Just saw this thread. My condolences, too. We had to put our dear cat, Tigra, to sleep last summer. She had been part of our family for 13 years. I cannot think about that experience even a year later without literally crying out loud.

So sorry for your loss. Thank God you were able to share Kugel's love for you and yours for her for the many years you had!

Sorry for your loss and know how a dog can become a member of the family. Lost my Max 12 years ago and sleep with his ashes next to my bed.

Thanks Gary, and very sorry for your loss. I'm sure it seems like just yesterday.....

Thanks, Chuck. Growing up I could never have a dog, and I always said as soon as I had a house, a dog would be next. We bought our house in June, 1982, and the week escrow closed we got our first dog, Boomer, who also lived 13 years (1982-1995). Having one human daughter and two girl canine daughters (Kugel and her "sister" Kasha) Boomer is and will forever be my sonny boy.

In case anyone is wondering, "kugel" is Yiddish for "pudding".

Had my Max for 11 years, he was a malamute/shepard mix but only 30 pounds. Lost him to cancer but was able to get him on special food and he survived another six months. I changed careers and spent a lot of time with him so when it was time to go I was ready. Didn't run out and get another dog then got involves and married into 4 step kids (married 9 years last month). We have rented houses so didn't get another dog but its about time.

Kugel didn't show any signs of being sick until less than a week ago. Took her to the vet Friday, did tests, x-rays, etc and he called me in the evening to tell me it was cancer, and far advanced. He called back 1/2 hour later to say she had died. Kasha had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor almost a year ago and for 16, she's doing well. MrsH and I just had our 36th anniversary this week (yea, July 4th).

So sorry to read this. Over the last two years we lost both of our dogs in a similar way. They never let us know, and were essentially at the top of their game until the day they tipped over. My condolences.

Am so, so sorry AffiliateHound know how sad you, Mrs. Hound and your daughter must be. Have made a post somewhere before about my doggies and kitty that lived to be quite old so know that losing them definitely is like losing a family member.

Know nothing helps now but especially since she came from a rescue center I know she couldn't have had a better home than the one you and your family gave her. Most important, she knew she was very much loved. Really am very, very sorry.

Also very, very sorry Justdoit, writerguy, Chuck and Gary for your losses too
Lil hugs for all of you

Oh, that is so hard, and no matter what we say here, there will always be a void in your heart where Kugel was...and there will always be some joy in your heart that Kugel left behind.

Twelve years is a pretty good life span for a German Shepherd which tells me Kugel was well taken care of.

    My thoughts are with you.
