    Recurring commissions
Would affiliates be interested in a recurring commission structure. Basically for every signup/sale up to 100, we would pay $3 per month as long as that customer stayed with our service. After 100 signups, each additional signup referred by the affiliate would earn him/her $5 per month.

Does this structure seem appealing to any of you affiliates?

Or would you prefer a higher, one-time commission for a sale?

Really does depend on what you are selling, how you convert, what your competitors are doing/offering, and if it's enticing enough to replace any existing merchants...

We offer hosted online invoicing and payment software. So commission would be rewarded based on signups. So far, the only competitors I've found have been pay simple and intuit on the Commission Junction network. Most other networks that I've viewed do not have any direct competitors.

If the commission as not recurring... would you offer more for the initial sale? Perhaps the idea of getting more upfront sounds more enticing.

You might want to evaluate how long your customers stay on with your service and whether it is worth your while to offer recurring commission or to just pay a little more right away.

Most of our customers generally stay with us. We just recently received an award from NPC for the 2nd lowest percentage of attrition out of all of their partners.

and if we just paid a one time commission, we would offer more.

You can try testing the commission structure? Weighing the pros and cons?

Or perhaps you can poll your dedicated affiliates to see what they would prefer?

That's a lifetime value (LTV) model. In the hosting and domain space the top producers require a recurring commission or they won't work with you. For your SaaS you are probably dealing with different affiliates. IMHO affiliates would rather get the higher commission upfront as tracking can breakdown over the years.

Chuck, thanks for the LTV clarification. That's exactly what I meant!

a lot of it would depend on how well you made the case with them on how long people stay with you on average. If it's 3-6 months or better, recurring revenue would look pretty good. In the end, it all depends on how it stacks up with competitive offers.

I've asked this question before too. I know I'd like to pay in a recurring manner, it fits my overall business model better.

Hoping when the service goes live, there will be enough of a structure to get some individuals interested.
