Which criterias to base on when choose an affiliate program.
I've just started with affiliate. I've found some articles about this topic but all are not clearly to follow I want to ask your real experiences. How can you choose an affiliate program? Did you make a search about the product? You choose the product you have known or you choose the product that other recommend you

Affiliates should choose merchants & products they know something about - whether it's a hobby, or something that interests them.

You have to create a website first - so the topic comes first, then you apply to programs to become an affiliate.

Try reading through the forum first before you ask more questions - there are hundreds of threads with helpful information.

What would you like to promote?

    Information products
    Holidays
    Beauty products
    Designer clothing

The list is endless so choose something with which you would be comfortable and search out a merchant.

Come back with any questions you have but you will find loads of information by searching this forum.

    Best wishes

Yes, you all right. I've search on forum and also on Google. There are too many topic, but no real experience. too much information make a newbie like me feel tired to choose the right thing

I'm working on Joomla and I m interested in travel and music. I think that I can combine all my hobbies to choose the products to promote. But I wonder about choose the product I love or choose the product people love. And should we choose the hot products or normal products but many good reviews?

Promoting the products and services that you have first hand experience with is always the best place to start. Don't focus on what everyone else is buying or promoting. Spend two or more years educating yourself, refining your skills and practicing diligence.

The narrower the niche the higher the chance for conversion on an affiliate site. The traffic may not be great but you will have an audience that is underserved and motivated to buy.

Further to my previous post I look for merchants with long cookie periods, minimum 180 days

180 days is a bit of a stretch and may limit you significantly. 60 days is a better low end target and 120 has been the highest I have been able to get a merchant on a network.

Suggest looking for in-house programs and perhaps on Has Offers. I ran a large in-house with 365 day cookie through Post Affiliate Pro, not sure if they have a directory list of merchants. Also previously ran same through My Affiliate Program - Kowabunga.
