    Customer loop back tracking
How do the major sites (Google affiliate, CJ) allow you to track a purchase or service back to your customer so you can credit them?

    That is: I sell/promote X Y and Z.

Customer 1 clicks my link buys 1 of X
Customer 2 clicks my link and buys 3 of X and 1 of Z.

I'd like to track back purchase 12345 and 34567 back to the respective customers. Thus I can give them "credit" if I want to.

    How do I do that?

Tutorial? API? Out of my mind?

Cashback sites do this. Basically you have to append your affiliate URLs dynamically by adding your users' unique "ID".

They are called different things on each network.

Once you figure out how to do that, the next step would be to use the networks APIs to automatically update the users' accounts with purchase/return info based on when you are paid.

Other than that - it's easy as pie...

So it CAN be done. That is good news.

Then the API does what? Returns that UserID (which I passed) and an amount back via an XML or generated report?

I can't bake, so pie isn't too easy.

Do you know what CJ and GA calls it so I can search their support? All the terms I used didn't give me a reply.

You need to bring the API results into your database.

How to Add SID Tracking to the "Big Network" Affiliate Links - Sugarrae

Oh, did I forget to mention that MANY merchants do not allow this sort of thing? Read each NETWORK's Terms and each Merchant's Terms...

Oh cool. so the technology is there. I just need to find the WP (or other) plugins that can read the SID (et al) data back via the API.

Your article showed the "how to get data off the website" which is cool. I am guessing there is an API that draws it back, regularly, etc.

I just need to find it (and documentation and so on).

    Thanks!

WordPress has nothing to do with SID, you are mixing metaphors. You need to do some serious research until you understand the underlying concepts here. Start by looking at the help systems in Commission Junction, LinkShare for SID, sub affiliate tracking, etc.

Oh I know they are separate. I am just hoping someone wrote a WP plugin for me

Sid comes from the network not WP, they are independent of each other. You have to add the Sid in your affiliate network account specific to each merchant you are promoting.

Do a search on this forum for "cashback" and "cash back", read threads like this one...

If you're relying on "plug-ins" or "canned scripts" - forget it. We're talking custom coding...
