Seems the Google is finally delivering on Matt Cutt's promise of updates that are "jarring and jolting".

While nothing has been officially announced, there is plenty of conversation about an update or updates rolling out. December 5th/6th, December 10/11th, and now it seems today as well.

Merry Fricken Christmas and a Happy Fllippin' New Year from the Google...

I got jarred and jolted back in March. I've spent the year trying to recover from these relentless BS updates. My space is now mostly populated with YouTube videos and merchants who use cookie-cutter manufacturer descriptions/photos that add less than no value. Seems G has managed to devalue original content, product insight, and recommendation based on experience type sites.

Each one of these peaks and valleys can be associated with an algo update/refresh:

It's horrible here... since Monday night @ 10pm. Lost every single gain made over the past 2 months.

I have 2 out of 3 platforms on the same domain that were hit. Have spent the week trying to figure out what connects the two, and why the third remains untouched.

Also making plans to reduce my dependency on affiliate marketing. Thanks for nothing, Google.

By the way, I saw a subdomain for ans**rs.com ranking in the top 5 for a coupon page that was nothing but a repeated "free shipping offer" from a store.. 25 entries for the same free shipping offer. Spam, pure and simple... and top ranked.

And.. a new website that has been copying some of my content is also top-ranked.

It's not looking good here either. Sales have been cut in half since the 10th.

Google makes me want to use language I don't normally use....

In predicted fashion after an adjustment, the Google is really mixing up the SERPs. Continued yesterday. What NO ONE wants to see is the next point on the graph PLUMMETING. Means another rollout and more spanking...

    Agree.

The Google said it was NOT Panda related.

Google Update On December 14, 2012? Looks Like It.

    ???

That leaves Penguin or perhaps a new critter...

The Google has confirmed there was NO 'known' recent update, Panda or otherwise.

Guess they're either lying, have lost control of "Skynet", or those of us that monitor such things (as fluctuations in traffic and rankings) somehow are all mistaken.

Oh, and there was a drop...

    I'm definitely feeling something...

But I had assumed it was my technology overhaul - I did a MASSIVE upgrade in the past 2 weeks. Turns out the f*^*!$#$ Joomla component to generate SEF urls was NOT doing its job. Mixed case urls when there were only supposed to be lower, and other 301s that were not redirecting, just duplicating.

The content section with 5k original stories has been on a steady climb since the 26th. Again, I thought it was the above upgrade to the latest J25.

Down Dec. 14, up a little since the 28th. IDK, maybe time of year trends?

Seems like search queries are packed with mostly big brand name sites. Although my main niche is still polluted with YouTube videos. (Which may be demographically accurate. ?)

For sanity reasons I've stopped staring at analytics.

Didn't even put a dent into blackhat. There is a great big hole in ALL of the Google's algorithms - HUGE hole. It's still exploited every single day...

I'm definitely feeling an upswing here...

The CMS upgrade might have paid off - I have 301'ed approx 20% of the site that was riddled with duplicate content (caused by a rogue SEF component).

    Feeling less love today?

Something has been rolling out and seems to be still rolling out.

No word from the Google as Matt Cutts has gone into hiding...

Still good here.. not earth-shattering, but I'm seeing small increases daily in the past 4 days.

Images are ranking extremely high, which doesn't mean much for sales, but I'll take it just the same..

Hate to say it but, visitors seem more targeted.

HOPING that what I'm seeing is not indicative to the pattern I've seen the past nine months - and that is better traffic then SLAP!

Figuring whatever is rolling out should be finished by Tuesday - we'll see...

I "think" the latest smack down was completed yesterday. Seems to have taken a few days. The SERPs got jumbled up again yesterday - will see what happens today. But for now - looks like we are where we are until the next smack down...

I think changes are still rolling out... G is still crawling at an aggressive pace.

I have a script that captures googlebot activity from apache logs.. it rotates daily, and I have archives going back 8 months. I should probably chart this data against Panda/Penguin updates..

With all the rankings dance, my traffic is still the same while conversion rate has dropped which was expected after the end of shopping season.
