Best Thing You Learned During ASW13
Let's share the new things we learned during ASW13!

For me, best session was Tim Ash from SiteTuners. I liked his comments about how sliding graphics on a site are distracting to the reptilian (human) brain. The bottom line is that we all instantly focus our attention on movement, to make sure that it is nothing harmful (auto response from caveman days). So each time something moves on a landing page, our attention is drawn from whatever we are looking at back to whatever moved. Very distruptive and it hurts conversions.

Zicam, Vitamin C and overdosing on hand sanitizer will not prevent the flu. That .001% will get you.

Caesar's is a huge venue and the steps leading up to registration was the best place to meet people. Hanging out in front of the booth/Meet market entrance missed all of those going to sessions. Forgot to pack all of my business cards and only had 30, went fast.

Focused a lot on learning as much as I could about Pay-Per-Call and now hope to put it into action.

Learned a TON about lead gen, and how to support our publisher's PPC efforts. Much like Affiliate Hound, putting it into action will be the fun part.

Can you give us one specific thing you learned? That could maybe help those who didn't get to go? Share the knowledge......

I wasn't able to attend, but I know where to look

Even Weber made these tips from the Summit public:
Experience Advertising - Affiliate Summit Networking Forum

Shawn Collins already made some slideshares public:

Compliance Mastery: Tips For Legal Landing Pages

7 Legal Pitfalls Affiliate Marketers Should Avoid

Look in the margins of those slideshares for other related slides.

Evan's stuff is always good, but it wasn't from ASW13. I'm not sure he even attended.

Sure, Jeannine, a couple of things about Pay-Per-Call:

As of now, it is being used primarily for lead generation and services, but if you search and talk to ams and opms, you can find products or influence some merchants to expand into Pay-Per-Call for consumer products (I got plenty of no's, but found one good one).

Do not plan to build a Pay-Per-Call promotion on a site designed for desktops/laptops - the present and the future and the money-making segment is in MOBILE.

The conversion rates on Pay-Per-Call blow traditional rates out of the water.

Common sense stuff like the best way to get the PPC results you want is to establish expectations. We had a problem with publishers bidding on our trademark, so instead of trying to foster relationships we took a more strict approach and would ban them. Now we are coming out with a list of suggested keywords for our publishers. Instead of folks only taking the obvious low hanging fruit we are pointing to the fruit a little higher on the tree that we need help with. We were lucky enough to have Roy, our PPC manager, there to help build a scheme that will be profitable for our publishers while not edging our bids up. I am super excited.

Lead gen was in a similar vein, its all about establishing what you want, and making sure everyone is profitable when you achieve that goal.

Interesting. This might be used to advantage, too.

you could draw attention to an image with movement, and the image is clickable-affiliated.

or does that sound too 1998-ish.
    The internet is a fad.
