    Moving suggestion - 1800 miles?
    Hi-

I have a friend that is asking me for some help.

She is looking to move to another state and would like to take a handful of stuff first before shipping the rest by a mover.

Seeing that she is planning to move 5 suitcase full, what is the most cost effective way to move?

It is 1800 miles and driving there is not ideal.
    Time is on her side?

    UPS freight?
    USPS?

I moved from my parents' house 6 blocks away
(I live in very close proximity & I can walk to their
place) so my experience won't be much help but
here are some links that might help:

Check UPS versus Fedex ground as both will pick up if arranged. Generally they require bix size and weight.

I moved from Ohio to Long Beach (and back). I found renting a Uhaul and doing the drive was the best option if you have to pay all the expenses yourself. With gas and the rental cost you can get out with about $2000-2500 or so in moving expenses.

I recommend leaving behind/selling anything you can't afford to buy once you get to your new destination. It will allow you to get the smallest truck possible which can cut costs by quite a bit.

If she's getting a company to pick up some or all of the bill, I'm sure having someone move it all for you is the way to go but I have no experience there.

    Best of luck.

    Bob

You may want to look into LTL motor freight. Place 6 suitcases or equivalent into one large box and get it handled door to door.
You must climb this mountain. There is no elevator. ---- Don't stick your finger in the liquid nitrogen.

Rhia7, i will check out those links for the girl. Those are good links to checkout. Funny thing is UPS does have that option, but does not allow the luggage online calculator to work.

    Chuck, Thanks!

Bob, the move, I think she is looking at moving 1800 miles first and setup in the new city, then ship the rest of the house shortly. The Uhaul is a good option, but I don't think for a girl to drive across the country is not ideal.
Or to cover the Rockies, and pacific coast mountains. The company did provide some cash assistance, but I would suggest that she utilize a mover.
$2000-3000 to self move, and I think have a mover come in might be about $8k.

Witzer, like putting things on a pallet?
