Is the Cusimano BettyMills Script Still Working?
I've been trying to get and use a good datafeed from BettyMills and having no luck downloading one with all the necessary product info.

So I turned to the BettyMills DYSE: script from Cusimano. Although I downloaded and installed the most recent script I could find -- the files were several years old.

When I ran the script to retrieve and process the BettyMills datafeed, I kept getting the error, "WARNING: Internet > 500 Service not available." and the script would stop.

Can anyone tell me what the problem might be? Anyone still using this script? Or is it no longer usable?

    Thanks.

Ok, the update just came in from Cusimano:

Basically, we need to whitelist your FTP address to use Cusimano.

    See their comments below. -Vic

    ==========================

Regarding that "WARNING: Internet > 500 Service not available." error that appears when the affiliate runs DySE::BettyMills, the affiliate needs to tell you their server's IP address so you can whitelist it on your FTP server.

Your FTP server is returning the "Service not available" text (because request is from an unrecognized IP), and the script then passes that text up to the user.

If the affiliate does not know their server's public IP address, the affiliate can determine it by opening a command window at their local desktop computer ("Start > Run... > cmd.exe") and typing the following command:

    ping www.DOMAIN.com
(where www.DOMAIN.com is their own website address)

Or the affiliate can determine their server's public IP address by typing the following command at the ssh shell command prompt on the server:

    lynx -dump ifconfig.me/ip

Actually, Victor, I just sent you a PM with my SERVER'S IP to have that whitelisted. If you reread the response David Cusimano made to you, he says his script requires my server's IP address to be whitelisted.

Anyway, you should now have that PM with the correct IP address to whitelist.

    Thanks again!

Victor, something is seriously messed up with the datafeed downloadable for affiliates.

If I use the Cusimano script, it builds out the datafeed just fine. I can even use the script documentation to build category sites.

BUT -- Even now that my IP is whitelisted, if I go into affiliates.bettymills.com and try to get a usable download, it simply gives me nothing I can possibly use.

From the affiliates.bettymills.com datafeed, I get something like "Website_URL" and "Product ID" columns. If I copy-and-past one of the values from "Website_URL" into a browser, it takes me to that product and includes my affiliate ID. But "Product ID" values are things like "LEX C930H2MG," which is absolutely useless for building a product listing on my website.

It includes NOTHING, not even empty columns, for things like "Product Name" or "Descriptoin" or anything else useful.

When I first installed the datafeed on my site last April or May (2012 that is), I had these columns of data in the datafeed:
    WEBSITE_URL
    PRODUCT ID
    CATEGORY
    BRAND NAME
    PRICE
    PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
    EXTENDED DETAIL
    IMAGE URL
    THUMBNAIL URL
... and probably half-dozen more data columns which I didn't use.

But without some data like Product Names and Images, the datafeed is worthless to me.

So WHY is the datafeed that Cusimano's script downloads to the server and processes via perl so totally different from the worthless empty shell of a datafeed downloaded from affiliates.bettymills.com.

I'll try to get some value out of the Cusimano script, but unless I can get a usable datafeed of some sort from affiliates.bettymills.com, it really isn't worth a lot of my time working on it.

    Hi Gary,

You probably have bookmarked an old feed location.

We moved the feed to an private FTP location.

I'll send u the updated location.

    Thanks, Victor.

One more question -- okay, probably lots more, but one for now -- how often is the feed updated? Is there a regular update schedule or just whenever the feed gurus at BM decide?

Victor, when you get a chance, I did send you one more PM with some detailed questions about sorting and using the datafeed.

Thanks again for all your help!

FYI -- Victor, Herb, any others reading this thread: I did some searching here at the BettyMills forum using the term "datafeed" and found my own answer to the questions I sent Victor via PM regarding how to sort out the huge datafeed to take out only the Storage Sheds and other Outdoor stuff. This thread (see especially note 9):

    http://www.abestweb.com/forums/betty...ed-148609.html

I'll try not to rant, but -- on the BettyMills affiliate interface, there's reference to all their products in "7 Blockbuster Categories," so I made the mistake back in the days of that earlier thread which I made today: I kept searching the datafeed "Category" "Super Category" and "Sub Category" columns for "Sheds" and for "Sheds and Outdoor."

Why would their "7 Blockbuster Categories" NOT be under one of those columns??

Because they refer to those categories in the datafeed as "stores" and put them under the "Store ID" column.

    Ah, well. Go figure.

So if you want a handy way to "chop up" the huge datafeed into more usable chunks, sort it by "Store ID" then copy-and-paste out those 7 "Blockbuster Categories" that way.
