    tracking question
    Good morning all,

I am new to this whole concept, can someone explain to me if i have a few different companies doing affiliate marketing, for example company x and y. Via one of the companies i make a sale... how do i know who i need to pay, what if they both make claims that they sold the item... how do i work this problem out.

Is there a point in wasting money on external tracking software or are most companies internal software good enough

Any help would be much appreciated

    Joseph

Are you talking about having two affiliate programs on two different networks?

You have to setup specific source referrers and have the networks add those to the redirects. Then your webmaster needs to tune the site as that you only drop the cookie for that affiliate at that network. Also you need to dynamically add the pixel based on the last cookie recorded and only fire the pixel for that network. If you are carrying both pixels on your thank you page then you are asking for trouble.

Another, simpler technique is to limit an affiliate to only one network instead of both. There is no reason to have them on both if you are offering the same commission and promotions on each.

    good morning,

Each affiliate has its own network and the cookies are located in different places.

hopefully that will sort it out.

Are you using a third party tracking system? Network? What is it?

If you are able to keep them separate then no there is no reason to pay for outside tracking.
