Just as an example: Went to CJ Home page a little while ago and saw on "Review offers pending approval" three that were new. All three were merchants LOWERING their commission/bonus rates.

And I admit one of those was me, but I did send you a personal note beforehand. Sometimes it's just out of our control. Merchants do not get it and they are cheap.

Finishing up a quick modification on one of our sites:

And some additional text to include like products from their competitor.

Simply have to add the merchant's name into a text file and upload to the server.

This will allow time to have a discussion with the merchant and if a compromise can't be reached - well, their competitors can send them a Christmas card...

    Amen, there, Jeannine!

With 85%-90% of affiliate-generated sales happening within 2 days of the click on the affiliate's link and with 50% of end users deleting cookies by day 45, I don't see any difference between 45-days' cookie life and "lifetime" cookies.

Two more merchants on CJ lowered commissions. One went from 8% to 6% and the other from 10% to 4% -

Wow, feels good to decline them then "expire" the relationship.

Think it's just time to clean house - y'know, like merchants do on a whim...

Yeap, a whole lot of them have been doing this. Might be that they're just not telling me they're doing it but for some reason most of mine seem to be either at CJ or SAS.

"Think it's just time to clean house - y'know, like merchants do on a whim... "

Very good idea but with the tax situation kind of not knowing how it's gonna end up when all's said and done, don't think I wanna burn any bridges with programs that I'm still in. When all's said and done who knows which programs will still be there.

Is it the dreaded coupon affiliate that they use to close the deal otherwise it goes to their competition. So they combat that by dropping commissions to 2% and cookie to 1 day. And they don't care about the rest that add value and are their customer acquisition channel??

Here is a good one and a smart move by the merchant.

    10% base rate Feb 10th

Durring Valentines they gave everyone a 4% increase for 4 days!! = 14%

After Valentines then reduced their base rate back to 9%, I wonder how many affiliates noticed the extra 1%

And cookie length does matter, it was very common for me to receive sales from 120+ days ago!! Well that was befor the merchant changed to a 30 day cookie!!
MERCHANTS: Start showing your coupons directly on your site, that way your shoppers will stop leaving your site looking for them!! If not then remove your Coupon Box!!

One merchant I promote has a 3 day cookie, about 1/4 of my sales are after the 3 day cookie.

Well those "people" must be dumb ass merchants who don't know how to manage a program...

Hey I have been reading through some old threads here...

I remember when I was doing the publishing and this bothered me. It was like the merchant hooked you to join the program and then afterwards scaled it back. I think this is poor management and, in fact, I believe in rewarding performance. I would much rather start with a 30 day cookie and then see someone perform and extend that out to a 90 day. Publishers are bringing you the traffic, and if you can't man up and pay them for sending you sales then you have it all backwards.

The program I am about to launch we just set it at 120 days and will leave it there as we feel there shouldn't really be a time limit.

I've been flooded with e-mails lately from merchants dropping commission rates/killing cookie duration. As our algorithm's update, they are going to be in for a world of hurt. Our traffic is like a faucet, and I just turned it off for you .

I had this discussion with a large merchant a few months back that had a 12 hour cookie, and 2 percent commission rate. At the time we were sending maybe a couple thousand in sales per month over to them. I explained the importance of commission rate in our algorithm's and cookie duration for epc. We convinced them to extend us a 10% commission rate and a 7 day cookie. They are now our largest merchant and receive 7 figure sales every month.

Take note merchants, most affiliates may not notice the terms changes, but you can't hide from our algorithm . I await the e-mails asking me why your sales dried up.
