    Affiliates In Illinois....
    Hey everyone,

I just heard that Affiliate marketing is banned for Illinois residents? Is this true? I am mainly concerned with Soap.com and Amazon. Could someone confirm this or send me a link that provides accurate, up to date information?

    Thanks,

    Shelley

    Hey Chuck,

Thanks again for the quick response. I found this out because Amazon said they could not do business with Illinois residents and the article is here:

Governor Quinn Abolishes Affiliate Marketing in Illinois | ShareASale Blog

I also hear that this has been reprieved. Not sure what is true though. You haven't heard of Illinois residents being banned from IM?

Also, does this forum have an I phone app?

    Thanks

    Shelley

We do have an iPhone app but it only lists Featured Threads. There is a mobile skin at the bottom of any page.

    Shelley,

Affiliate Marketing is not banned in Illinois, but the laws that the Governor signed in make it extremely difficult for any Affiliate to operate in the state of Illinois. My article, which you link to above, explains why it makes it near impossible.

The PMA (Performance Marketing Association) has since sued, and won, in the State of Illinois as the law was ruled unconstitutional.

The ruling is being appealed by the State of Illinois and so at the moment... everything is a bit up in the air.

We won in Colorado fighting similar legislation, but Amazon still hasn't reinstated affiliates there either.

If you search for merchants that already have Nexus in Illinois, or international merchants, there are many opportunities there. Some merchants are also collecting sales tax, and will still work with IL affiliates. It really is on a case-by-case basis, so apply to programs you'd like anyway, and the merchant will let you know their decision.

    Hi J Crooks,

Thanks for the great info. I will look up the list of merchants that have Nexus in Illinois.
