How can I have transactions that are both locked and voided?
"Locked transactions are transactions that are eligible for payment..."

"Voided transactions are transactions that have been identified as invalid by the merchant partner..."

I unconditionally accept your offer that the transactions are eligible for payment.

What care I that the merchant partner has identified them as invalid?

Do you really think the TOS mean anything -> anymore ???

Think you might have found another or hopefully not the same merchant.
When they get voided, they also become locked.

It means that the commission in question has passed the period in which it can be reversed or changed. If a valid sale passes this time frame, it's locked and you get paid. If a reversed transaction passes this period, it's also locked and can't be modified. If you look at transaction details, you'll see that pretty much every transaction regardless of type becomes "locked" after 45 days or so depending on the program. Not seeing an issue here, apologies if I missed something.

I don't see the issue either - transactions can be voided... that is both a reality of the business, as well as legally explained. Believe me, I would prefer a world where voids did not exist ! But it is a reality of business.

Locked - is an indication that a transaction can no longer be voided... if it has already been voided that is clearly a different story. Perhaps slightly redundant, but there is no reason that a transaction could not be both locked and voided.

superCool has seen a void appear and the status is already Locked, which leads superCool to believe that the commission had been locked before it was voided. maybe there are other things at play that are not apparent from a quick look at the new voided transactions, but when you see this it raises a red flag.

    superCool,

A locked transaction could not be voided - a Merchant simply receives an error (if they try) that says just that.

It is that way because about 95% of the time, transactions are locked and paid on the exact same date. Which means, if we allowed them to be voided... we would have already paid you... and thus we would be out of pocket for that commission.
    Thanks,

I could enforce payment on these transactions. I'm not going to do it - but legally you are wide open.

I'll leave the legal opinions to the lawyers, but I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion.

As always, if anyone has concerns about their account - feel free to contact me at brian@shareasale.com - I feel like I've given as much factual information about locked and voided transactions as I can in this thread.

Wade said that a voided transaction becomes locked automatically, so if that's true then superCool probably saw the voided/locked transaction and did not understand that the void was actually the trigger that locked the transaction. the sale/commission had not already been locked for payment and then voided. will definitely watch closer next time just to better understand.

    thanks

Brian would know better than me... but I think you guys are barking up the wrong tree if you're thinking something unethical is going on. Brian and his team are beyond solid from this point of view and enforce the terms fairly on both sides more than any network I have ever seen. He's build a really successful business on this philosophy. If you think there are issues, you should get with Brian personally and if there's a problem he'll resolve it.

superCool "thinks" he understands what's going on now and it is apparently working as designed. if it happens again superCool will pay closer attention to verify what really happened.

the confusion for superCool seems to be caused by the Locked status on a voided transaction. superCool thought the Locked status meant the commission had been locked.

no problem here and not suggesting that Brian or SAS are crooks

    superCool out
